Minimum Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
- Any master’s degree with at least 18 graduate credit hours in geography (geography-based anthropology coursework is acceptable)
- At least two years teaching college-level geography courses (with emphasis on cultural geography) including serving as a graduate assistant
- Proficient in geographic concepts, theories, and methodologies, including physical geography, human geography, and cartography.
- Proficient in creating engaging lesson plans, interactive activities, and hands-on experiences to enhance the learning process.
- Proficient in verbal and written communication skills needed to effectively convey geographical concepts, theories, and research findings.
- Master’s degree in Geography (emphasis in Cultural Geography preferred)
- At least five years teaching college-level geography courses (with emphasis on cultural geography)
- Experience teaching early college/dual enrollment high school students
- Familiarly with course content delivery using a learning management system (LMS) such as Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard, etc.
- Track record of cross-disciplinary collaboration
- Involvement in community outreach and service, connecting geography to real-world issues and promoting the importance of geographical understanding
- Advanced knowledge of geographic concepts, theories, and methodologies, including physical geography, human geography, and cartography
- Advanced knowledge in the creation of engaging lesson plans, interactive activities, and hands-on experiences to enhance the learning process
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills needed to effectively convey geographical concepts, theories, and research findings
The Instructor of Geography designs and implements curriculum, fostering a stimulating learning environment that guides students in understanding geographical principles, spatial analysis, and global perspectives. The instructor is expected to have a passion for geographical exploration, effective teaching methods, and a commitment to inspiring students to appreciate the interconnectedness of the world.
- 30% Teach the equivalent of five (5) face-to-face and online courses per semester (fall and spring)
- 20% College service (committee assignments, recruitment events, etc.)
- 15% Develop and revise curricula
- 15% Advise students
- 15% Professional development (conferences, workshops, publications, etc.)
- 5% Other duties as assigned
