Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) seeks to fill the position of Workforce Development Specialist - Information Technolgy. The Workforce Development Specialist - Information Technology is located in the Division of STEM. This is a full-time position.

Dean of STEM

COMPENSATION:

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Required Eudcation:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
Required Experience:
  • Three (3) years' experience in workforce development
  • Experience development business and industry partners
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Advanced:
  • Excellent communication and listening abilities; persuasive and negotiation skills, strong professional writing, public speaking.
  • Leadership, project management, and planning capabilities.
  • Ability to represent the organization in a professional manner.
  • Ability to gather and collect data and build Excel reports.
  • Ability to think "outside the box" and to lead and manage change in a positive and inclusive manner.
Proficient:
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively with an ethnic, cultural and socially diverse student population.
  • Ability to maintain confidential and highly sensitive student information.
  • Ability to multi-task and deliver work product under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to collaborate with other professionals on projects and tasks.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred Education:
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
Preferred Experience:
  • Five (5) years in workforce development

Job Concepts

The Workforce Development Specialist for the Division of Science, Engineering, and Mathematics develops positive long-term relationships with technology driven business and industry representatives. He or She supports and strengthens relationships with business and industry to address workforce needs and assist with talent supply and demand. He or She will provide leadership and supervision to industry sector partnerships "cluster" and lead in creating workforce solutions for business and industry. The position reports to the Division Dean and supports the Dean in the planning and implementation of workforce development activities.

  • Meets with local industry representatives to determine workforce and or talent needs.
  • Assesses the business organizations and provides comprehensive evaluation of employment and training needs.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with training providers in order to develop necessary and responsive workforce solutions.
  • Provide opportunities for business and industry to assist with the development of training programs to include apprenticeships, internships, job shadowing and work-based learning.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with public-sector, and non-profit employers to create career pathways for future talent.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with economic development entities, chamber organizations and other workforce development agencies to ensure alignment and execution of collaborative workforce strategies.
30% Education and Training
  • In Coordination with the Dean of the Division, plans, implements, and directs workforce development activities.
  • Supports the Dean of the Division by seeking, interviewing, and evaluating faculty.
  • Builds the schedule and monitors it for efficiency, revenue generation, and timeliness.
  • Ensures institutional goals related to Industry Based Credentials are met each quarter.
  • Conduct cost analysis to ensure course expenses are covered and sustainability measures are infused into every training.
  • Manages all equipment and its upkeep in compliance with BRCC inventory procedures.
  • Ensures instructors and the program remain compliant with all BRCC, LCTCS, and Federal mandates and administration policies.
  • Ensures revenue generation included in the Division goals and plans.
25% Administrative
  • Assist the Dean in the development of department budget; monitor expenditures of department funds; analyze data, operational, and management reports for the region; prepare, review, and submit reports concerning activities, budget, expenses, and other items affecting program services.
  • Imitate contracts and agreements for funding and implementation of programs; develop professional services requests, review proposals, select contractors, prepare contracts; oversee implementation of contracts; ensure that obligations are met; that invoices are received, processed, and within parameters of contract budgets.
  • Gathers information for additional funding opportunities to support workforce and programming.
  • Gathers labor market information, talent demand and skills requirements and translating data into meaningful information to create workforce development strategies.
  • Develop and manage a database of employers and/or industry representatives and maintain regular communication through appropriate channels.
5% Other Duties as assigned.
