Description

The Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics at The University of Texas at Austin has two tenured or tenure-track faculty positions beginning Fall 2024 in the area of Computational Engineering. This search is conducted jointly with the Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences. We are interested in all areas of computational engineering, with particular emphasis on the broad areas of computational mechanics, numerical methods for partial differential equations, and high-performance computing. The first position is a 100% appointment in the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics with the option of an affiliation with the Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences. The second position is a joint position that will have 50% teaching duties in the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics and 50% in the Oden Institute's Computational Science, Engineering and Mathematics graduate program. Both positions are open to applicants at all ranks: assistant, associate, and full professor, including the possibility of appointment as a chaired professor for candidates with exceptional qualifications.

The Department's values include scholarship, impact, integrity, diversity, collaboration, and inclusivity. To these ends, we are committed to supporting the success of all members of our community: students, staff, and faculty. A successful candidate can expect to benefit from and contribute to those efforts.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree in engineering or a related field. The successful candidate will be expected to create undergraduate and graduate learning environments that address the needs of students from a variety of backgrounds, with differing learning styles and abilities. Further, the successful applicant will be expected to develop an externally sponsored research program, mentor graduate students, collaborate with other faculty, and be involved in service to the university and profession.

Application Instructions

Applicants will be considered for both positions, but may express a preference for one position over the other in their cover letter. Interested applicants should submit the following materials:

(1) a cover letter, (2) curriculum vitae, (3) research statement, (4) teaching statement, (5) mentoring statement, and (6) three letters of reference at the assistant professor rank and five for tenured positions. Please see the Department website for additional information and instructions.

Candidates should address their submission to the Computational Engineering Faculty Search Committee. Applications received by November 15, 2023 are assured full consideration, but the search will continue until an appropriate candidate is identified.

The successful candidate will be required to complete an Employment Eligibility Verification form and provide documents to verify identity and eligibility to work in the USA. A security sensitive background check will be conducted on the applicant selected.

Please address questions to Prof. Karen Willcox, the Computational Engineering Faculty Search Committee Chair (kwillcox@oden.utexas.edu) and Prof. Clint Dawson, the Computational Engineering Faculty Search Committee Ex Officio Member (clint.dawson@austin.utexas.edu). ** For application questions, contact Traci Laird (traci@utexas.edu).
