At DMU you will make a meaningful contribution to the dynamic future of Medicine and Health Sciences. The position of Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs will oversee all aspects of student clinical activities including 3rd- and 4th-year clinical rotation management. The position requires oversight and execution of academic, administrative, financial and public relation functions of the College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) Clinical Affairs department that includes recruitment of new sites, student placement at clinical rotation sites, assisting in preceptor professional development, securing/renewing affiliation agreements, and ensuring compliance with Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) standards related to student clinical rotations. This position will oversee the Clinical Affairs staff and will provide direction of continuous quality improvement plans. This position reports directly to the COM Dean and is subject to an administrative contract.

What you’ll do:

Oversight and supervision of all 3rd and 4th year clinical clerkships process and participants including: providing clerkship assessments & feedback of both student and preceptor managing the delivery of post-rotation exams leading monthly Clerkship Directors’ meetings updating annually clerkship policies, guidelines, and student handbook materials

Develop strategies and policies to support students’ successful preparation for board examinations.

Responsible for initiation and follow-up of any disciplinary action for 3rd and 4th year students in coordination with the Dean’s Office. 

Develop action plans for these students requiring disciplinary or remediation action.

Responsible for continued tracking of 3rd- and 4th-year students towards meeting all graduation requirements including a review of preceptor grading and determining rotation final grades. 

What we’re looking for:

M.D. or D.O. degree

Certified by an AOA, ABMS or recognized equivalent Board Certification organization in the field of medical practice.

Five years of experience teaching medical students or residents on clinical rotations or in a classroom setting.

Leadership/management experience required.

Financial/budgetary oversite experience preferred.

Must possess a valid state license and be eligible to gain license to practice in the State of Iowa.
