The Director of Assessment provides leadership and oversight of the University’s assessment programs, including outcomes assessment for the University’s academic programs, and administrative and educational support units, and ensures compliance with the mandated assessment requirements of the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).

Reporting directly to the Vice Provost for Academic Effectiveness, the incumbent:
1. Facilitates engagement and provides leadership for the University’s annual assessment reporting process, the University’s method for documenting compliance with the relevant SACSCOC comprehensive standards, and ensures academic programs and administrative and educational support units documenttheir continuous improvement efforts.
2. Provides expertise, leadership, support, training and consultation to academic programs and
educational and administrative support units.
3. Supervises the Assistant Director of Assessment.
4. Provides general oversight of the University’s assessment of general education competencies, and the University’s quality enhancement plan.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Considerable experience in the design and implementation of post-secondary student learning outcomes assessment programs.
2. Considerable knowledge of post-secondary program assessment.
3. Demonstrated familiarity with SCHEV standards and SACSCOC accrediting standards.
4. Experience developing appropriate outcomes,including student learning outcomes, for academic programs and administrative and educational support units.
5. Demonstrated experience and progressive responsibility for developing appropriate outcome
measurement strategies and instruments.
6. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
7. An earned master’s degree from an accredited institution; or equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the prerequisite knowledge, skills and abilities.
8. Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative on matters, and work within the
framework of a diverse team.
9. Comprehensive experience with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams).

Additional Considerations

1. An earned doctorate from an accredited institution.
2. Comprehensive experience with Taskstream/Watermark.
3. Evidence of excellent verbal, presentation and written communication skills.
4. Experience supervising and assessing the work of others.
