Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities
The position provides project coordination and strategic management of the Med-Health Development’s programs and daily operations by providing strategic and long-term planning, overseeing operations services for the unit, and working to ensure the unit’s long-term goals are supported through appropriate allocation of resources. The position will assist unit leadership in developing strategic planning materials and processes, oversee to deployment of team resources for project support, provide training and supervision for 2 development assistant positions and one full-time stewardship coordinator, and develop HR and operational stewardship processes for the team. The position may also manage grateful patient educational programming for SOM faculty and serve as the Program Manager for the Medical Philanthropy Program. Minimum Hiring Standards
This position will manage multiple simultaneous projects and process a large volume of complex work, as well as provide leadership and strategic management for a team of high-performing fundraisers. Therefore, the position requires the following minimum hiring standards:
· Sound professional judgment and discretion as well as the ability to solve problems, prioritize tasks, respond to questions, and make decisions independently while also functioning as a leader in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
· An undergraduate degree from an accredited university or a minimum of 5 years of experience collaborating with a team of executives in a fast-paced, highly complex environment
· Experience in project management and process/procedure development
· Strong proficiency with internet research
· Experience developing and writing professional communications as well as exceptional oral communications skills and phone etiquette.
· Professional credibility required to engage and leverage senior administrative leadership, faculty, students, volunteer leadership and other key stakeholders in development activities.
· Database management and reporting skills
· Experience with MS Office Suite software including MS Word, Access, and Excel
· Experience with G-Suite including google docs, google drive, google sheets, and google slides
· Working knowledge of tax laws affecting charitable giving
· Ability to work in a diverse environment Preferred Hiring Standards
  • A graduate degree in higher education, public administration, or related field or work experience at a level that equates to an advanced degree
  • 2 years of employee hiring and management experience in a professional office environment
  • Experience with Blackbaud products and proficiency in Blackbaud database
  • Working knowledge of Project Management principles as defined by the Project Management Institute
  • Experience in development office administration and donor/constituent relations, faculty training/support, particularly in an institution of higher education and/or medical environment, in an externally-facing role
  • Deep appreciation for the mission and aspirations of VCU and the VCU School of Medicine
