The Teaching and Learning Center at Bucknell University seeks a dynamic and pedagogically-minded community builder to be our next Associate Director of Faculty Development. The Associate Director of Faculty Development provides professional development for the Bucknell faculty across multiple dimensions throughout their careers to introduce pedagogical practices, increase student learning, initiate dialogue on salient issues in higher education broadly and at Bucknell specifically, encourage reflection, and foster community. The TLC's four guiding principles, which are at the heart of its Faculty Development and Student Learning Support Programs, are student-centeredness, active learning, reflection, and inclusivity.

The Associate Director of Faculty Development works with the Faculty Director and a small team of TLC staff to provide 80-90 faculty development events per year that build community and share pedagogical practices. These events include an annual multi-day workshop on course design and pedagogy for new faculty, weekly series for new and newish faculty, a weekly lunch session for faculty and staff that draws more than 80 attendees, and a bi-weekly session targeted to a smaller group of faculty on more narrowly conceived pedagogical and curricular topics. There are approximately 4 sessions per week, so the pace and volume are significant, and creativity and flexibility are critical.

This job has an excellent balance of administration and teaching, while allowing room for research and creativity. Applicants should show their past evolution into this type of work as well as their ideas for growth in the position.

Job Duties:
● Work with the Faculty Director and members of the TLC staff to conceive, design, and implement whole programs and individual sessions on a broad range of faculty development topics. This may require coordinating with collaborators, selecting supporting materials, crafting email invitations, and running or co-facilitating programs.
● Work with the Faculty Director to research and discuss emerging trends and topics of interest to the Bucknell faculty, both nationally and locally, and consider the best fit or delivery options for those topics.
● Support Bucknell's faculty mentorship ecosystem.
● Advise and support faculty individually and in groups, as they develop their teaching practices, pedagogies, and philosophies using guidance informed by research-based knowledge, but also encouraging each faculty member's own exploration without being prescriptive.
● Develop and teach 1 course during each academic year, which could be in the General Education curriculum or in affiliation with an academic department. Depending on the course, this responsibility may include advising students.
● Offer a faculty development perspective on TLC Student Learning Support programs.
● Handle specific administrative tasks, which include managing the TLC budget, updating faculty-facing resources, and maintaining shared digital records of programs.

Minimum Qualifications:
● A doctoral degree in any discipline.
● Three years of experience supporting faculty in higher education.
● Three years of teaching experience at the college level.
● Demonstrated ability to positively interact with a wide range of individuals in a highly professional manner and to build communities that are welcoming to all.
● Demonstrated commitment to and experience with equity and inclusive excellence.
● Demonstrated knowledge of the breadth of pedagogies used across disciplines in higher education as well as their benefits and drawbacks.
● Excellent written and oral communication skills; willingness to collaborate in a busy environment; flexibility and openness to learning new things; and the ability to handle confidential information on a routine basis.
● Demonstrated experience and strength in: administrative and organizational skills; managing multiple simultaneous projects; and effective and efficient multitasking.
● Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Google Education Suite, and comfort learning new technology platforms and interfaces.

Preferred Qualifications:
● Five years of experience supporting higher education faculty in ways such as: orientations, workshops, consultations, or mentorship.
● Five years of experience working in higher education pedagogy including research and publication.
● Demonstrated experience researching, crowd-sourcing, and writing curricular or pedagogical materials for faculty use.
● Understanding of inclusive pedagogies, such as Universal Design for Learning.
● Experience working in or collaborating with student learning support programs.
● Demonstrated experience managing complex budgets.

Physical Demands:
● Requires focused computer work for long periods of time.
● Opening and closing of food trays.
● Arranging of classroom furniture, including tables and chairs.

Work Type:
This is a full-time, 10 month, benefits eligible position.

This role is not budgeted for visa sponsorship at this time, all candidates must be authorized to work in the US at the time of submission of the application.

Salary Range:
This is a Staff Exempt position with a hiring range of $59,760 - $74,700 (E09). The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the qualifications of the position, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy.
