This is an internal posting for Full-time Non-Temporary Auburn University and AUM employees.

Auburn University’s Provost Office is excited to recruit candidates for the Director of the Auburn Study Abroad program!

The selected candidate will direct and oversee the functions, operations, marketing, compliance, and emergency response aspects of Auburn Abroad and Exchange Program services for programs abroad (outside of the 50 United States) as well as the international travel enrollment protocols for all university travelers abroad.

Essential Functions
  • Leads the development of strategic and tactical planning and processes in compliance in line with international education best practices, with key stakeholders including Risk Management, the Registrar, Title IX, Clery, Student Financial Services, Cybersecurity/Office of Information and Technology, and federal and state laws. This includes the maintenance of all processes, practices, and policies.
    1. Represents the Office of International Programs ( OIP ) on international travel advisory committee.

  • Oversees and establishes protocols for the emergency response services for all university international travel (outside of the 50 United States). This includes emergency on-call services, crises management, travel advisory compliance, insurance and university registration for students and employees, and training/orientation for respective parties.
    1. Represents the Office of International Programs ( OIP ) on university crises management team.
    2. Serves as an on-call emergency lead responder, in a team rotation. This includes communication during crises with students, parents, faculty, Campus Safety, Risk Management, international emergency case managers and other counterparts at abroad destination.
  • Leads and implements the training of program directors and developing of programs. Program Director training includes covering Title IX, Clery, and managing international travel crises. Program development includes outreach to interested AU employees, budget development, academic guidance, logistics and vendor contract support, and program approvals.
  • Leads on guidance on study abroad advising and leadership to coordinators and works to overcome advising challenges with new practices and polices as needed. Student advising includes brochure and application development, program marketing support, student and parent support, application assistance, insurance, enrollment, and billing processing. Serves as backup to coordinators with difficulty or challenging cases.
  • Oversees the continued utilization of study abroad software ensuring that software systems comply with university cybersecurity requirements. Provide staff with resources and training to ensure that they can effectively utilize software/systems.
  • Represents Auburn University and its study abroad programs throughout campus and professional organization and associations. Includes representation at regional, national, and international conferences and site visits.
  • Full supervisory responsibility for other employees is a major responsibility and includes training, evaluating, and making or recommending pay, promotion or other employment decisions.
Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Counseling, Education, Management, Business, or related field.

Experience: 5 years of experience involving the interpretation and/or application in international student/employee law and policy.

Substitutions allowed for Experience:
When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.

Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications

Minimum Skills and Abilities

An understanding of what immigration needs for domestic students studying abroad are required. Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, and intercultural skills. Ability to interact effectively with students, parents, faculty, administration, study abroad providers, and overseas partners.
