Definition of Class

The Facilities Manager of the Duff Center will facilitate the best practices necessary to manage a student-centered learning environment at the Jim & Thomas Duff Center at The University of Mississippi, a 200,000+ square foot state-of-the-art STEM teaching facility. This employee will manage all facilities operations for the Duff Center and help advance UM’s vision by implementing best operational practices for the facility and supporting cutting-edge pedagogy that benefits students, faculty, staff, and the community.

Examples of Work Performed
  • Address problems of facility usage, operation, equipment malfunction, etc., and liaison with Facilities Planning, Facilities Management, IT, University Police Department, etc.
  • Serve as a liaison and interface with various university departments and external partners
  • Establish laboratory services
  • Work with academic departments in placing and receiving orders, maintaining relevant records, and delivering orders to labs and/or stockroom
  • Place orders for central purchases and contracts (e.g., building-wide items not purchased by individual departments) and maintain building inventory
  • Work with departments and the Facilities Management Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Office for disposal of chemical and biological waste
  • Ensure compliance with appropriate regulatory agencies
  • Execute and manage building-wide safety and security plans, and operation plans
  • Ensure facilities-related projects and events are executed properly and timely
  • Supervise other building support staff
  • Perform all duties as assigned
Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

  1. Oversees and manages facility operations and building and grounds maintenance.
  2. Collaborates with unit leadership to establish facility and laboratory based practices and procedures
  3. Monitors and manages operating systems to identify any concerns.
  4. Provides guidance and supervision for staff.


Minimum Education/Experience

Experience/Educational Requirements:

Education:

Minimum: High School or equivalent

Preferred: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

AND

Experience:

Two (2) years of experience related to the above described duties.

AND

Licensure:

Valid Driver’s License
