The University of Hong Kong invites applications and nominations for appointment as Dean of the Faculty of Education.

Ranked world #1 most internationalized university in 2019, and 22nd among the world’s top universities by QS in 2020, the University is a leading university in Asia with 29,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students and more than 7,000 academic, academic-related and administrative staff.

HKU has been involved in teacher education since 1917, and the Faculty of Education was established in 1984. The Faculty of Education is forward-looking and world leading, ranking the fifth globally in Education (THE 2021). It has assumed an important role in educational research and professional training and has contributed significantly to education policy and development in Hong Kong. It is a major teacher-education institution and has strong expertise in policy analysis and curriculum development. It was the first institution in Hong Kong to train speech therapists and audiologists for the local community. More information about the Faculty can be found at https://web.edu.hku.hk/ .

The Dean will provide academic and strategic leadership to the Faculty, with a clear vision. He/She will be responsible for furthering the Faculty’s mission, including to advance scholarship and engaging in research with high impact internationally, nationally and locally; to break new ground in curriculum and pedagogy, and to be a role model for good educational practice; to nurture graduates of distinction; to engage in productive partnerships; to serve as a focal point of intellectual and academic excellence in our fields of expertise in Hong Kong, China and Asia, and act as a gateway and forum for scholarship with the rest of the world; and to develop and sustain a collegial, inclusive, supportive, flexible and multicultural environment. The position carries the status and title of Professor.

The Dean is expected to possess distinguished academic credentials, with internationally acclaimed research achievements. He/She should preferably have administrative experiences. The successful candidate would also possess outstanding leadership, interpersonal, communication and team-building skills, and have demonstrable success in fostering interdisciplinary research, fundraising, knowledge transfer, and partnership development.
