Job Description Summary
The Clinical Research Coordinator is responsible for oversight, execution, and regulatory compliance of human subject research carried out in the Neuro-Muscular(NM) Division of the Neurology Department. The scope of this job includes coordinating the regulatory aspects of the Neuro-Muscular research program, oversight of clinical research projects, and management and submission of all regulatory documents of the Neuro-Muscular research program. The Clinical Research Coordinator is also responsible for conducting clinical trials.

The coordinator must be detail oriented and have prior experience with IRB guidelines and policies and human subject research practices and appropriate professional skills in the execution of research protocols. The Clinical Research Coordinator will generate reports documenting the progress of individual research projects for internal and external use. Key components of this job include coordinating clinical trials and IRB/Regulatory document submission and compliance.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities

- Responsible for the execution of all clinical trial aspects from start to finish, including but not limited to the implementation of clinical protocol requirements for the Neuro-Muscular Division.
- Provide support to patients enrolled into clinical trials, facilitate patient/physician communication, communication with primary physicians which will include coordinating all clinical visit activities for assigned studies and be responsible for tracking disease related symptoms, medication side effects, and dispensing and tracking experimental drug use.
- Participate as part of a multidisciplinary team member in the care of patients receiving treatment on clinical research protocols to provide optimal health care for Neuro-Muscular patients.
- Communicate any updates concerning drug study patients including any important information (i.e., patient deaths, emergency admissions) to appropriate personnel.
- Host periodic monitoring visits with respective pharmaceutical companies as well as interact with internal physicians and external physicians to recruit appropriate new patients for clinical trials.
- Assist with review of new protocols for appropriateness and feasibility, coordinate designated studies ensuring that all records are updated and readily available to the department, the university, the sponsor and the Food and Drug Administration upon request.
- Screening and maintaining enrollment of perspective study participants (patients) for clinical trials.
IRB protocol and all IRB correspondence for assigned drug studies will be a major responsibility in this role.
- Should the use of medical facilities be required for drug studies (i.e., CTRC, EEG lab, Radiology), compliance and cooperation standard should be maintained. Facilitating communication between departments should the use of outside departments be required. to between these departments

Position is contingent upon continued funding.

  • Bachelor of Science and 2 to 4 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • PREFERRED: The CRC B should be highly motivated and detail-oriented, have strong planning, organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing capabilities, and be capable of problem solving issues as they arise, but willing to seek help as appropriate to complete the work accurately and efficiently. The CRC B should have a strong ability to communicate with clinicians, researchers, sponsors, patients and families. The CRC B should possess the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Prior experience with industry-sponsored trials, early phase trials, ethics committees and/or gene and molecular therapies is preferred.
