Summary :

Under the direction of the Associate Director of Financial Aid, this midlevel position provides quality service to prospective and current students, requiring strong communication and presentation skills. Independently applies their expertise of student aid program practices and policies including federal, state and university regulations to determine appropriate allocation of aid awards, authorize exceptions, and provide individual counseling on non-routine, sensitive aid issues. Programmatic administrative responsibilities require the assistant director to structure their work, and effectively manage their time to successfully accomplish multiple priorities within required deadlines.

Responsibilities:
  • Provides one-on-one counseling to prospective and current students and families on a variety of financial aid related topics to include completing the FAFSA, additional eligibility requirements, smart borrowing options, student loan repayment, and personal finance. Must be comfortable discussing financial matters with families from all socioeconomic backgrounds in a professional and sensitive manner.
  • Manages student caseload by engaging in proactive outreach. Outreach campaigns will encompass students with barriers to packaging and disbursement (verification, missing documents) as well as students with outstanding balances.
  • Reviews documentation, determines the documents required to justify and calculate adjustments to aid.
  • Exercises sound decision-making. Conforms to the Office’s policies and procedure in determining student eligibility, award amounts, and professional judgment adjustments. Communicates outcomes in a sensitive manner to student.
  • Plan, develop, and present on a variety of topics to small or large group audiences. Represent the University in a positive and polished manner. Coordinate activities of the staff assigned to assist during recruitment activities. These events may be virtual or in-person. On camera presence required when virtual.
  • Provide programmatic oversight and subject matter expertise for at least one financial aid related program or specialty with the ability to be flexible and demonstrate a supportive team attitude. Provide training to team members when required.
  • Collaborates with partner offices to resolve complicated student or program-related issues. Recommends solutions for senior management consideration when necessary.
Requirements :
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree supplemented by a Master's degree in a closely related area that qualifies the candidate for the responsibilities described above.
  • Three (3) years' of professional experience in different aspects of administration and business practices.
  • Strong ability to calculate financial aid with attention to detail and accuracy. Understand financial aid eligibility requirements pertaining to academic progress, citizenship eligibility, default and overpayment of federal aid, etc.
  • Ability to interpret policies and develop procedures to ensure compliance. In-depth knowledge of regulations in interpreting and administering of federal Title IV, state and university financial aid programs to ensure compliance. Proven ability to research, interpret and apply complex rules and laws.
  • Demonstrated experience using complex databases, including Ellucian Banner, Cognos and Excel. Strong technology skills with financial aid management software systems including state and federal systems. Experience working with CampusLogic platform to complete federal verification, clearing CFLAGS, appeals, and scholarships is a plus.
  • Must be available to work evenings/weekends when necessary including on short notice in the event of urgent office operations; some domestic travel may be expected.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills including presenting to both large and small groups. Must be able to withstand the demands of heavy public contact and presenting/speaking in public.
  • Ability to think critically, strategically, and creatively regarding the enrollment management process
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with the entire team to successfully perform various projects and financial aid office duties. Must be accustomed to periods of peak processing and successfully balancing multiple priorities.
