Position Description

The Division of Teacher Education at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) invites applications for a Tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor (Academic Year) with the appointment starting in Fall 2024.

The Position

The faculty of the College of Education (COE) at California State University Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) seek a dynamic critical pedagogue, community engaged researcher, and collaborative colleague with a background in justice-centered education for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor position in the Teacher Education Division of the College of Education.

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated history of teaching and research in the areas of Dual Language Education, Multilingual Education, and/or Plurilingual Education with an intersectional perspective. We are especially interested in a colleague who applies equity-focused theoretical lenses and approaches to their educational praxis. The candidate will have experience as an educator in urban educational settings (such as TK-12 classroom teaching, youth serving programs, and/or community-based organizations) with linguistically, culturally, racially, ethnically, and economically diverse students, as well as an understanding of curriculum development and critical pedagogies. The candidate will have interest and/or experience in program leadership and development to advance all Dual Language Learning programs. The colleague will have a theoretical and methodological background that will extend the knowledge base of Teacher Education faculty in new ways, such as critical pedagogies, translanguaging, raciolinguistics, multilingualism, critical race studies, ethnic studies, Indigenous education studies, coloniality of language, queer/queer of color critique, abolitionist, Women of Color Feminisms, disability studies and/or other critical approaches to education.

Responsibilities
  • Developing and teaching in our Dual Language Learning Programs (MA in Education/Certificate)
  • Collaborating, refining, and developing new courses and programmatic efforts
  • Teaching a variety of post-baccalaureate/graduate courses in the Teacher Education Division in Spanish in face-to-face, hybrid and online modes
  • Pursuing a research agenda through an interdisciplinary and justice focused approach to education
  • Aligning curriculum with current CTC Bilingual Authorization guidelines and maintaining open communication with CTC throughout our accreditation processes
  • Contributing to service on department, college, and university committees
  • Advising graduate students



Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • An earned doctorate in Education or a closely related field by date of employment
  • Experience or potential to teach and develop courses in Dual Language Learning (Spanish) and teacher education at the post-baccalaureate and graduate levels from an equity and justice oriented perspective
  • Experience or potential to develop and sustain a research agenda in Dual Language Education, Multilingual Education, and/or Plurilingual Education and/or an interdisciplinary approach to Education
  • Experience in teaching and working with colleagues from diverse age, socioeconomic, cultural, linguistic and academic backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching in bilingual/multilingual contexts
  • Experience working in partnership with local schools, education agencies, school districts, or institutions of higher education
  • Experience placing candidates in bilingual student teaching contexts
  • Theoretical and methodological background that complements and/or extends the knowledge base of the Teacher Education Division.

Additional Information

The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary range is $5,405 to $11,994 per month (12 monthly payments per academic year); The anticipated hiring salary is $6,910 to $6,940. This position will be commensurate with experience and current CSUDH faculty salaries in the academic department/discipline. Faculty salaries are subject to budgetary authorization and any California State University System faculty contract increases. Summer research grants, moving expenses, start‐up funds, and a reduced teaching load may be available.
