The Department of Public Health at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for Spring 2024 to teach PH 561: Global Health: Chronic & Infectious Diseases. The course is a 3-unit class taught in the second 8 weeks of the semester.

Course Description

This course provides an overview of current knowledge on mechanisms of major chronic and infectious diseases causing death and disability globally. Unique epidemiologic features, risk factors, relevant technical challenges, resource limitations, and cultural barriers that have shaped current approaches will be discussed. Successful evidence-based strategies designed to prevent and control these diseases will be reviewed. This course introduces the Millennium Development Goals for reducing childhood mortality, improving maternal health, and combating diseases such as HIV/AIDS and malaria.

Minimum qualifications:
  • A Master of Public Health (MPH) or Master of Science in Public Health (MSPH)
  • Relevant experience working with college-level students or teaching in an institution of higher learning.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with core faculty and colleagues on an ethnically and culturally diverse campus
  • Per the California State University’s Out-of-State Employment Policy, the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside California. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment.
Preferred qualifications:
  • A doctoral degree in Public Health or a closely related field
  • Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and/or intercultural competence with diverse groups in relation to teaching.
Salary commensurate with degree level and experience
  • Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $4,530 - $5,000 per full-time month
  • CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,530 - $6,056 per full-time month
