Job Summary
Defines systems requirements, makes recommendations for technology selection, and performs moderately complex data analysis to ensure data management objectives are met. Provides guidance to lower-level staff and facilitates unit staff training. This professional position serves as a Business Systems Analyst for the Accounting Services department and performs business systems analysis duties for UW Milwaukee, which include:
  • Creates and supports a variety of data extract and report deliverables based on a thorough and evolving understanding of unit and institutional data support needs.
  • Collaborates with users to understand new reporting requirements and translate them into Workday & Workday Adaptive Planning reports to support financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting needs.
  • Evaluates existing data extracts and reports to assess purpose and need. Converts needed content to appropriate business intelligence platforms such as Power BI and Tableau. (The candidate will assume primary responsibility for transitioning a library of Hyperion reports before this tool is retired in July 2024)
  • Ensures that all reports are accurate, relevant, and timely, meeting the required specifications. Routinely validates deliverables against historical data and other available data sources.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves any issues related to data extracts and reports, including Workday.
  • Participates in testing and training of all Workday functionality and uses knowledge in a “Train the Trainer” approach for rollouts to UW-Milwaukee stakeholders.
  • Performs routine and ad-hoc data analyses to support required deliverables of Accounting Services and Financial Planning and Analysis, including:
  • Tuition, Financial Aid, Gift/Grant Accounting, Indirect Costs, GAAP Reporting, among others
  • Works closely with IT and the campus data community to ensure adherence with institutional best practices and data governance policies.
  • In consultation with supervisor, develops and documents new processes and procedures to improve unit efficiency and service outcomes.



This will be a primarily remote role. Approximately 10% of work will be performed in-person at the main UW-Milwaukee campus or an ATP testing site. Travel to UW-Milwaukee is at employee cost. Specifics regarding work location requirements will be discussed during the interview process.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Information Systems, or related field or equivalent work experience
  • 3+ years of professional experience working with business systems, data tables, and financial statements
  • Demonstrated experience working with ERP systems (such as Peoplesoft or Workday) and Excel


Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in Accounting, Information Systems, or related field
  • Experience gathering requirements and creating data visualizations for various stakeholders
  • Experience working in a higher education environment
