Director of Computing Programs - Seattle (Open Rank)

About the Opportunity

The Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University invites applications for the position of Director of Computing Programs beginning July 2024 at our campus in Seattle, WA. Faculty rank for the position will be commensurate with experience. The college currently offers the Master of Computer Science Align and Master of Computer Science programs, hosts summer undergraduate mobility programs, and supports faculty-led research. The Align program is a national initiative to close America's tech diversity gap by offering an innovative Master of Science in CS for non-computer science major. Future plans include increased undergraduate programming, an interdisciplinary Master's program in Robotics, and expanded research activity.

Khoury College has grown rapidly over the last five years in response to increased student demand at the BS, MS, and PhD levels, and we expect to continue this rapid growth for the next several years. We invite you to join a college with significant support for teaching-track faculty and an underlying mission that is driven by our motto of “CS for Everyone.” Khoury College is committed to diversity and inclusion in computer science. We aim to establish a computing population—students, faculty, researchers, and staff—that reflects today's global society. Building relationships with students and service to the college and university are integral components of the position.

Northeastern University is home to 35,000 full- and part-time graduate and undergraduate students and to the nation's premier cooperative education program. The past decade has witnessed a dramatic increase in Northeastern's international reputation for research and innovative educational programs.

Responsibilities:

The ideal candidate for the Director role will be able to combine strong leadership skills, demonstrated administrative experience, and a commitment increasing diversity in computer science to create a strategic vision for growth of innovative and impactful programs in the region. The Director oversees the operational functions of Khoury programs on the campus, including faculty mentoring, budgeting, and collaboration with Graduate Student Services staff that provide academic advising, cocurricular programming, and career services support. The Director will be required to teach Master's level courses and will have the opportunity to recruit full- and part-time faculty at the Seattle campus. The Director will work closely with dean-level college leadership and directors of other regional campuses to ensure equitable delivery of high-quality programming in Seattle. The director will interact with Seattle campus staff and administration as well as the faculty and staff of other colleges in support of regional programs and goals.

Qualifications:

Candidates must hold a PhD in Computer Science or a related field from an accredited institution by the appointment start date. Appointment rank will be commensurate with experience.

Please submit a cover letter of interest highlighting teaching accomplishments and relevant professional experience. Candidates must also submit a statement of leadership philosophy and vision, a teaching statement, a diversity statement, and a curriculum vitae.

Teaching statement: Please summarize your past instructional and/or mentorship experiences, your pedagogical philosophy, your plans/goals for teaching at Northeastern (including existing and proposed courses), and your strategies for teaching and mentoring a diverse cohort of undergraduate and graduate students.

Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity statement: Please provide a statement of your contributions to diversity that describes your past experience, activities, and future plans to advance diversity, equity, inclusion, justice and belonging in your teaching, service, and impactful work outside the classroom. Some faculty candidates may not have substantial past activities. If that is the case, we recommend focusing on future plans in your statement.

Compensation is commensurate with qualifications and includes an outstanding benefits package.
