Job Description

The University of Missouri School of Law is seeking an individual for the position of Staff Attorney in the Veterans Clinic. The primary purpose of this position is to expand the capacity of the Veterans Clinic by implementing and helping with outreach programs, helping and supervising students, instructing Clinic students, handling case files, submitting timely and complete documents to the government from veterans, and interfacing with Veterans Clinic stakeholders.

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Implementing outreach programs for veterans and students, focusing on homeless or at risk of homelessness
  • Supervising the Clinic's pro bono referral program
  • Supervising case files arising from outreach independently
  • Submitting timely and complete documents to Veterans Administration (VA) and Department of Defense (DOD) for veterans
  • Interfacing with Veterans Clinic stakeholders which include law school faculty and staff, members of the General Assembly, donors, students, and veterans community
  • Implementing Continuing Legal Education (CLE) programs for attorneys
  • Supervising case files with students as requested by the Director of the Clinic
  • Seeking grant funding and writing proposals
  • Working collaboratively with other staff in the Clinic
The Veterans Clinic is largely funded through outside donations. The longevity of the Clinic and this position are continually dependent on future grants and other fundraising initiatives.


$75,000 - $92,000 based on skills, education, and experience

8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. with flexibility of hours and remote work possible as approved by the Director of the Clinic

Minimum Qualifications
  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
  • Missouri law license or ability to secure Missouri license promptly
  • Three years of experience in researching, writing, and interacting with legal professionals
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience at a law school or law firm with veterans issues and handling veterans law cases
  • Prior teaching experience in veterans law
  • Accreditation with VA and VBMS access
  • Work with appellate courts or on legislative initiatives
  • Willingness to travel as required by the Director of the Clinic
