Department: The Department of Art within the College of Fine Arts at Florida State University is seeking candidates for a 9-month, tenure-track, Assistant Professor position in our Foundations Program.

 

The Department of Art confers BA, BFA, and MFA (3-year) Studio Art degrees. Our top-ranked programs encourage interdisciplinary investigations across a wide range of concentrations spanning Book Arts, Ceramics, Drawing, Electronic Art, Moving Image, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, and Sculpture. Responsibilities: The position has responsibilities in research, teaching and service that include sustained investigation in contemporary art practices, teaching undergraduate courses, and service within the Departmental, College, University, and broader community.

 

Primary teaching responsibilities include instruction in at least two areas of the Foundations Program classes: Two Dimensional Foundations, Three Dimensional Foundations, Drawing Foundations, Digital Foundations, and Contemporary Art & Design Foundations. Optimally, the candidate has a strong knowledge of the Adobe Suite and potentially, other digital tools. The teaching load for this position is 2|3 per academic year.

 

Participation in Program and Departmental service is required, as well as College, University, and broader community service, as appropriate. The position provides opportunities for curriculum development within the Foundations Program. Teaching upper level, or graduate courses, outside of the Foundations Program may occasionally be available.

 

Qualifications: This position requires an MFA in Studio Art or related field. Candidates must also have emerging or established recognition in the field, an active exhibition record, strong communication and leadership skills, a record of excellence in teaching, and an understanding of a wide array of curricular and artistic methodologies. We expect a high level of skill in both traditional 2D/3D practices and digital techniques as this will provide the necessary knowledge base for the courses they will teach. Knowledge of the history, criticism, and theories of visual art is also required.
