Director, Donor Relations

Position Summary:

As we enter into a comprehensive fundraising campaign, we are growing our exceptional team of passionate, mission-driven Advancement professionals, looking for a Director, Donor Relation, who will support the fundraising and engagement efforts of the Advancement Division.

The Director, Donor Relations is the main point of stewardship contact for the University of Dayton donors, overseeing a comprehensive program to effectively recognize, acknowledge and share the impact of gifts to all units and programs. This position plays a critical role in nurturing and strengthening the culture of philanthropy across the UD community through donor engagement and communications.

The Director will:
• Manage timely and comprehensive reports and stories on the impact of donor giving, thus elevating donors' trust in, engagement with, and philanthropic support of UD.
• Collaborate with gift officers, campus leaders and endowment fund beneficiaries to ensure all endowed fund earnings are used according to donor expectations and in a timely manner.
• Lead operational aspects of Donor Relations including gift and scholarship agreements, giving societies, named spaces, acknowledgements and scholarship management, as well as the creation of special donor stewardship and recognition outreach that reflects best practices in stewardship.
• Work effectively with both internal and external constituents, and more fully integrate stewardship into prospect and donor strategies and relationships.
• Coordinate with staff to produce key multidimensional stewardship deliverables including - written, video or events (in-person/digital), ensuring both timeliness and the appropriate level of customization.
• Carry a portfolio of donors identified as permanent stewardship to ensure meaningful 1:1 contact for that donor.
• Professionally represent the University to its various audiences: board members, donors, prospects, alumni, faculty and University leadership.
• Guide the Donor Relations staff and report to the Senior Director, Advancement Services.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in marketing, communication, public relations or related field
• 8+ years appropriate applicable work experience that includes donor relations experience in a non-profit environment
• Experience in a service-oriented environment working with donors and other community members
• Knowledge of best practices in donor-centered fundraising, donor relations, events and constituent engagement
• Experience in creating meaningful constituent experiences
• Experience working with diverse populations
• Experience communicating with people diplomatically and navigating difficult conversations
• Ability to prioritize, meet deliverable dates and manage several projects simultaneously, including printed and electronic materials
• Strong interpersonal communication skills (verbal, presentation, written and digital) and history of building and maintaining strong relationships with constituents
• Ability to work both independently and collegially and collaboratively in a team setting
• Enthusiasm, attention to detail and creativity
• Proven ability to supervise, coordinate and motivate staff and volunteers to enhance the stewardship program

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

• 5+ years of fundraising, stewardship, public relations or marketing in a higher education setting
• Demonstrated experience in seeking, writing and sharing impactful donor success stories
• Strong understanding of the unique needs and motivations of donors at various giving levels
• Examples of managing operational activities with an analytical lens and developing effective processes
• Demonstrated examples of inspiring confidence and trust with audiences
• Experience with comprehensive fundraising campaigns
• A commitment to UD’s Catholic/Marianist charisms such as promoting human dignity and building up the beauty of human diversity
• Excellent customer service, personal integrity and a strong work ethic
• Ability to work within InDesign, when provided with templates
• Knowledge of AP style, Affinaquest (Salesforce), ThankView, Academic Works, Microsoft Office and Google platforms
