The Division of Languages and Literature at Maryville College, a selective four-year liberal arts college committed to superior teaching, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in writing, with experience in journalism, professional writing and/or creative writing (prose).  Qualified candidates will have a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching in a liberal arts setting and at least one year of prior successful college-level teaching experience. A terminal degree (an M.F.A. or Ph.D.) in writing from an accredited institution is required. Interest in program development is a plus. Responsibilities include advising the student newspaper and teaching the following:  composition and public speaking in the Core Curriculum; professional and creative writing in the major, including journalism; and literature courses (which may include an area of specialty such as Appalachian Literature, African American Literature, Women’s Literature or others) in the English major and the Core.  The successful candidate will supervise senior study projects and student internships, and will serve on departmental and college committees.
