Clemson University: College of Arts and Humanities: English
Assistant/Associate Professor in English, Director of First-Year Composition

Location: 806 Strode Tower

Description

Clemson University's English Department seeks an outstanding scholar and teacher for a tenure-track/tenured position at either the assistant or associate professor rank. We seek a colleague in rhetoric and composition to teach undergraduate and graduate classes and to serve one or more terms as Director of First-Year Composition, a three-year renewable position. The position start date is August 15, 2024.

The typical teaching load for tenured and tenure-track faculty is two courses per semester. The Director of First-Year Composition typically receives one course release per academic year while serving in the director role. The new Director will also collaborate with current faculty to enhance well-established curricular and institutional programs. The English department has a robust undergraduate major, a significant role in Clemson University's general education curriculum, and a well-established graduate program.

Clemson is an R-1 land grant institution located in upstate South Carolina-a global university with a mission to serve the diverse communities of our state. The recently updated university strategic plan offers a three-tiered strategy to enhance student experience, increase faculty research, and expand the positive impact of the university within communities across South Carolina. Consequently, the search committee is especially interested to hear from candidates with an interest in student engagement and community outreach, especially to traditionally underserved communities across the state.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must hold a PhD in English, rhetoric, composition, or a related field, maintain an active research agenda (we are open to various specializations), and have administrative experience, broadly construed.

Application Instructions

For priority consideration, applications should be received by October 15, 2023.

To apply for this position, please submit a CV and cover letter. The committee will request additional materials from selected candidates later in the hiring process.
