—    PHILOSOPHY OF THE PRESENT (W2/W3)

You have a background in contemporary philosophies and an outstanding international and independent research profile that enables you to make substantial and original contributions to a philosophy of the present. You are interested in contemporary philosophies and especially in the crucial potentiality of philosophy for analyses, reflection and critique of the present based on the historical and methodical depth of its conceptualisations. You have a wide-ranging research profile based on in-depth historical, methodological, and systematic philosophical knowledge of various seminal positions, in particular also of continental philosophy. You have expertise demonstrated through prior relevant work and publications that may consistently contribute to shape a profile of contemporary philosophy in the coming years. Ideally, you have a keen interest in philosophical and conceptual analysis of civil society and in contemporary questions related to areas of study such as digitalisation, the environment, gender, sexuality, “race”, class, ethnicity, religion, age, or comparable areas (listing without intended hierarchy). Moreover, you see your philosophical work as a contribution to cultural studies with a particular emphasis on the epistemology of cultural studies.

The professorship is part of the Institute for Philosophy and Art History (IPK) of the School of Culture and Society. You have a wide-ranging teaching profile at all levels from BA to PhD and are interested in teaching in inter- and transdisciplinary programs. At BA-level, you teach in the Minor “Philosophy” and in the Major “Cultural Studies” in the subfield “Cultural and Social Theory”; at MA-level, you mainly teach in the Master program “Critical Studies - Arts, Theory, History” as well as in the following integrating modules of our cultural studies Master’s programmes “Media and Digital Cultures” as well as “Culture and Organization”. Due to the integrative function of the professorship, you are highly engaged in our complementary study program designed for students of all schools, as well in our semi-structured PhD program. You are able to teach courses in English at all levels of the curriculum. Knowledge of the German language is not a prerequisite, but applicants are expected to acquire a sufficient knowledge of the German language within an appropriate period.

For a possible W2-professorship, you should contribute to national and international academic and scientific debates. You publish actively in relevant national and international journals and publishing houses. You have experience in the acquisition of third-party funds. For a possible W3-professorship, you have a long-standing record of influence in national and international scientific discussions. You publish widely in relevant national and international journals and publishing houses. You have already been successful in the acquisition of third-party funds.

You are also willing to actively participate in interdisciplinary research networks within the School of Culture and Society as well as other profile topics at Leuphana. Furthermore, it is required that you will take part in the academic self-administration.

The professional position will be filled in accordance with pay grade W2/W3 (university full professorship). Formal requirements are based on § 25 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (NHG) and include a university degree, the particular ability to conduct in-depth independent scientific work as demonstrated by the outstanding quality of your dissertation corresponding to the profile of the professorship; additional academic achievements obtained, i.e. in the course of an assistant professorship, during your postdoctoral lecture qualification (German: Habilitation), a second book or proven achievements equivalent to a second book, or other achievements recognized as being equivalent to a postdoctoral qualification; and pedagogical and didactical competence based on experience in using innovative teaching methods.
