Job Summary
The University Campus Store is looking for innovative, energetic, and team-oriented individuals to join our organization. We have been part of the University for over 100 years and serve a large and diverse campus community. Our unit is made up of the flagship University Campus Store, University Campus Store Health, University Campus Store Sandy, stadium, arena, and event locations, and ecommerce channels. With an emphasis on our student customer, we are a key retail service provider for students, alumni, faculty, staff, parents, prospective students, visitors, and University of Utah athletic fans.
The University Campus Store is seeking an Associate Director of Business and Finance to oversee and administer all internal accounting operations within the University Campus Store. This position is responsible for the oversite of a $25 million annual budget. As a member of the Campus Store Sr. Leadership team, they work closely with their colleagues to develop, analyze, and implement strategies to achieve the Campus Store's long-term financial objectives. This position consolidates and analyzes financial data, considering the Campus Store's goals and financial standing, to make recommendations to Campus Store senior management, Auxiliary Services Associate Vice Presidents office and the University of Utah's Chief Financial Officer.
This position works closely with Campus Store, Auxiliary Services and other campus partners to monitor financial transactions, review compliance with university and divisional policies/practices, maintain account integrity, collaborate with senior leadership on operational initiatives, income and expense tracking, and long-range financial planning and analytics.
This position is the Campus Store's primary contact between the various university financial services including Purchasing, University Audit, Accounting Services, Compliance, Ushop, and Income Accounting. This position will supervise up to three full-time direct reports, along with a diverse team consists of approximately ten full-time, part-time and student staff.
Lastly, in the first six to nine months, this position will work closely with numerous campus partners, including Campus Store IT, University IT, and Auxiliary Financial Services to do a full system conversion on Campus Store systems to an Oracle based platform from its current legacy system.

Responsibilities
Maintain accurate and complete financial records for the University Campus Store.
Monitor the day-to-day financial operations within the University Campus Store.
Oversee financial reports, with timely and accurate income statements which include business tracking vs. prior year and budget.
Identifying business trends
Develop and implement plans for budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
Develop financial models, conduct benchmarking and process analysis for all business units.
Provide financial insight and analysis to drive the business performance of the organization.
Manage and monitor metrics, KPI tracking, and reports.
Understand and calculate the risks involved in the financial activities of the organization.
Oversee the budgeting process and provide guidance and recommendation to all business units.
Evaluate, develop, and improve department controls, systems, and procedures that increase accuracy and efficiency.
Use sound ethical judgment and critical time management skills to accomplish tasks that are urgent, highly sensitive and/or confidential, exercising critical thinking and creative problem-solving techniques to advance work efficiently and effectively.
Oversee the physical inventory preparations with other department heads for the annual store-wide year-end inventory and the various mid-year departmental inventories.
Ensuring that all accounting processes align with GAAP and current financial legislation.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business or Public Administration, a related area, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required; plus six years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communication skills also required. Master’s degree in Business Administration or related area preferred. This position is not responsible for providing patient care. Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
Preferences
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field.
MBA, CPA, or additional educational certification or experience relevant to the field is strongly preferred
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, MS Outlook, PowerPoint, database management tools, professional communications tools, etc. as well as demonstrated experience using advanced spreadsheets and databases.
Understanding of data analysis tools like Microsoft Power BI and Tableau.
Experience in a fast-paced and high-volume enterprise, business, or university setting.
Excellent communication (written and oral) to communicate professionally with a broad range of clients, constituents, and customers.
Prior experience with NetSuite, PeopleSoft or other Oracle based accounting platforms.
Prior experience in implementing a full system conversion strongly preferred.
Prior experience with a retail services business or auxiliary services in a higher-ed environment.
