Multimedia Faculty Position Summary

Portland Community College’s Art, Humanities, Communication and Design (AHCD) Academic and Career Pathway is seeking a new full-time faculty member in Multimedia. We are currently looking for a full-time faculty member who has up-to-date digital media knowledge and industry experience to teach a variety of courses in our field. The ideal candidate will be committed to using the cultural knowledge, prior experiences, frames of reference, and performance styles of ethnically diverse students to make learning encounters more relevant to and effective for them.

About the Art, Humanities, Communication and Design (AHCD) Academic and Career Pathway Program

The AHCD Pathway welcomes students from diverse backgrounds and abilities to study and develop their skills in preparation for a variety of careers and/or transfer to four-year institutions. The faculty work with administrative staff, casual staff, student workers and Pathway leadership to enhance our students’ learning experience by ensuring classes and facilities are well supported. Faculty have the ability to make sound decisions regarding whether they are able to provide appropriate support and instruction or can seek assistance from fellow faculty, the Faculty Department Chair, administrative assistant, or the Art and Design Program Dean. Remote work and the use of technology to perform duties off site may be needed.

The successful candidate will join a team committed to designing, fostering and facilitating learning environments that are welcoming to a diversity of communities. Multimedia is housed under the Art and Design Program which is comprised of eight (8) areas of study:
  • Architectural Design and Drafting

  • Art

  • Graphic Design

  • Interior Design

  • Music

  • Music and Sonic Arts

  • Multimedia

  • Theater Arts

These areas often work in collaboration to help enhance our students’ college learning experiences.

Nature and Scope of Work

Faculty instruct students in current multimedia courses and help prepare classrooms for instruction with assistance from the instructional support technician. May provide work direction to work-study, student helpers and casual employees. Faculty are expected to remain current in their respective fields and pedagogy (around teaching and learning), maintain College safety standards in their work areas, ensure that students are trained in good safety practices and make reasonable efforts to ensure that students follow good safety practices. Faculty are expected to be committed to a culture which values human diversity in all its forms and to bring culturally responsive educational practices to serve our students.

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).
  • Master’s degree in Multimedia or related field, such as: Graphic Design or Fine Arts (including Game Art), 3D design, Animation, Video Production, TV Broadcasting, Film Production, Video or Film Editing, Video Compositing, or Augmented Reality; and 3 years,DDraft experience in industry as a designer, animator, producer, director, cinematographer, videographer, or editor.
OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in Multimedia or related field, such as: Graphic Design or Fine Arts (including Game Art), 3D design, Animation, Video Production, TV Broadcasting, Film Production, Video or Film Editing, Video Compositing, or Augmented Reality; and 4 years experience in industry as a designer, animator, producer, director, cinematographer, videographer, or editor.
OR
  • Associate’s degree in Multimedia or related field, such as: Graphic Design or Fine Arts (including Game Art), 3D design, Animation, Video Production, TV Broadcasting, Film Production, Video or Film Editing, Video Compositing, or Augmented Reality; and 5 years of professional experience in industry as a designer, animator, producer, director, cinematographer, videographer, or editor.
OR

The Program Dean, in collaboration with the Faculty Department Chair, will make a recommendation to the Pathway Dean regarding the following elements of evidence of Demonstrated Competency, such as:
  • 3 years full-time experience in multimedia or related field, e.g., programmer, producer, internet developer, project manager, interactive technical writer; and/or,
  • 3 years full-time higher education multimedia teaching experience, or 5 years higher education teaching experience using multimedia in instruction; and/or,
  • Portfolio that demonstrates mastery of the multimedia subject area; and/or,
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (not in multimedia or multimedia-related field);
  • 3 years experience delivering training in multimedia or related field and/or,
  • Certificate in Multimedia from an accredited institution

  • Experience with multi-cultural and/or cross-disciplinary visual media culture
  • Experience fostering industry partnerships
Starting Salary Expectations

Initial Salary Placement will be between Step 1 ($64,562) and Step 3 ($68,491) based on related experience, per PCC's collective bargaining agreement.

PCC offers a comprehensive benefit package designed to provide employees and their families, including domestic partners, with access to a broad range of benefit options. Includes Health, Dental, and Vision options, Group Life, Long-term Disability, Long-term Care, and Auto and Home Insurance programs.

PCC currently funds the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (PERS/OPSRP) pension and contributes an additional 6% into the employee's Individual Account Program under PERS/OPSRP. A portion of the 6% will be diverted to The Employee Pension Stability Account as mandated by Senate Bill 1049. PCC offers a tax deferred annuity program and a deferred compensation program where employees may save additional pre-tax dollars for retirement.

Additionally, PCC provides a tuition waiver for courses offered at PCC for yourself, domestic partner, and dependent children under 24 years of age; plus partial tuition reimbursement for yourself at other accredited institutions.

* Please note: Temporary Full-Time Faculty are not eligible for Personal Leave Days, Life Insurance, Long-term Disability, or AD&D Insurance.

Paid Leave:
  • 1 day of sick leave for every 18 days worked (~10 per year)
  • 21 hours of additional personal leave per year
  • 4 paid holidays (which occur during the term you are teaching)

Instructors shall have earned required academic credentials at a regionally accredited US institution or a foreign institution having the equivalent of regional accreditation.
