Mentoring Coordinator

The Mentoring Coordinator will serve on the Alumni Career & Personal Development team within VCU Alumni and will report to the Senior Director of Alumni Career & Personal Development. VCU Alumni is committed to supporting the professional development of our alumni through networking, mentoring and other various professional development opportunities. VCU Link is the official resource for these types of professional support. VCU Link, powered by PeopleGrove, is the university’s online community for building real-life connections, whether that’s alumni to student or alumni to alumni. The coordinator will work closely with VCU’s African American Alumni Council (AAAC) Mentoring Circle, housed in VCU Link, to develop sustainable practices for the mentoring program’s volunteer recruitment, training and evaluation of connecting African American/Black students with African American/Black alumni.

The Mentoring Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating the marketing and communications, leading the planning, organization, and execution of various platform components/features that support both VCU Link and the AAAC Mentoring Circle program. This position requires significant knowledge of professional development trends and practices with particular proficiency in technology to assist in delivering various programming related to mentorship (e.g., digital platforms Google suite, videoconferencing).

Primary responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively with the African American Alumni Council’s Mentoring Circle program to provide continued support of its high-quality mentorship program and meet/exceed goals measured by the number of mentors, mentees and matches through marketing efforts (including testimonials/success stories), bulk match processes, etc.
- Provide annual training for mentor and mentee pairs by ensuring that training curriculums and materials are in alignment with best practices; regularly maintain communication efforts with pairs regarding trainings and feedback
- Create opportunities for recruitment efforts by developing and enhancing recruitment materials for outreach including community engagement events, lunch and learns, tabling efforts, etc.
- Coordinate event logistics in collaboration with the AAAC’s Mentoring Circle committee of volunteers, including goal setting, event and program consultation, budget allocation, strategic communications, data management and metrics tracking
- Approve alumni and other constituent users upon completion of their account profile
- Maintain and monitor the VCU Link email account for user outreach and feedback
- Monitor the discussion board and seeding questions as necessary
- Maintain and develop professional development resources and training materials on topics like workplace professionalism, resume development, interviewing skills, job search strategies, salary negotiation strategies, etc. for platform users
- Serve as point of contact for outreach efforts and key touch points during on-campus tabling events
- Develop and deliver presentations and demonstrations to various campus partners and chapters on VCU Link to further inform and motivate participation
- Support data collection and analysis from the VCU Link platform

Minimum hiring standards:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field, or equivalent experience in higher education, corporate, or non-profit environment
- Professional experience in a higher education or nonprofit setting, including experience in development, institutional advancement, student affairs, or a related field such as event planning/management
- Proficiency with technology including digital platforms, Google suite, videoconferencing, survey, and project management software
- Proficient interpersonal skills required; significant administrative experience in detail-oriented office with high level of interaction with outside community and University academic and medical communities
- Experience developing and writing professional communications and presentations
- Ability to interact personably within a complex administrative organization, as well as with external groups
- Maintain confidentiality; demonstrate an ability to work in confidential environment with all levels of internal and external customers
- Ability to prioritize, focus, work with minimal supervision and be a self-starter
- Ability to travel both locally and regionally as deemed necessary
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment and commitment to do so as a professional employee at VCU
- Ability to work frequent evenings and occasional weekend events as deemed necessary

Preferred hiring standards:
- Experience working with mentorship programs
- Demonstrated ability to strategize, implement, and build constituency programs and activities, along with a talent for motivating volunteers
- Demonstrated experience working with a vendor software system, such as PeopleGrove
