Position Summary

The Postdoctoral Associate position is immediately available in the lab of Dr. Ryan Hunter ( Department of Microbiology & Immunology ) for motivated postdoctoral scholars or research associates to pursue a Cystic Fibrosis Foundation / NIH -funded study focusing on the role of bacterial-mediated mucus degradation in the progression of chronic airway disease. This translational effort will leverage cutting-edge stable isotope probing and proteomic technologies, genomics and microbiome analysis, imaging, epithelial cell culture, and animal models of airway disease to probein vivobacterial activity and their interactions with the host epithelium.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Conducting routine experiments following appropriate protocols and procedures
  • Recording results and maintaining accurate records of experiments
  • Performing data interpretation, statistical analyses, data interpretations, and communicating findings with the PI
  • Assisting in writing manuscripts related to the project
  • Training junior members of the laboratory and assisting others when/where expertise is needed
  • Performing weekly lab maintenance duties

Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD in Microbiology or related field
Preferred Qualifications
  • Expertise in one or more of microbial genetics, FPLC / HPLC, and/or anaerobic bacterial culture
  • Experience working with research animals (mice or rabbits)
  • Integrated multi-omic data analysis ( RNA -Seq, 16S rRNA, Proteomics)
  • Ability to publish and present research data

Salary Range
$56,484 - $68,604
