The College of Engineering and Science at Florida Institute of Technology invites applications and nominations for Department Head of Mechanical and Civil Engineering (MCE). We seek a visionary leader with strong academic and leadership background to grow research and scholarship while maintaining excellence in undergraduate and graduate education. The successful candidate must possess an extensive research background, with proven administrative, management and interpersonal skills as well as a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion among the faculty and students.

Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field. All candidates should qualify for tenure at the full professor level.

The MCE department has four Programs: Mechanical Engineering (BS, MS, and PhD), Civil Engineering (BS, MS, and PhD), Construction Management (BS) and Engineering Management (MS). The undergraduate programs in Mechanical and Civil Engineering are ABET accredited and the Construction Management BS Program is accredited by the American Council of Construction Education (ACCE).

The Mechanical Engineering Program has research strengths in Design and Manufacturing with a focus in Additive Technologies, Robotics, and Thermal Sciences. This research is supported by active laboratories in Laser Materials Processing, Advanced Material Characterization, Robotics, Mechatronics, Heat Transfer and Material Testing, Adsorption and Energy Technology, Advanced Functional Materials for Sustainability, and Innovations in Sustainable Energy and Thermal Systems. The Civil Engineering program has research strengths in multi-hazard risk assessment and mitigation with a focus on hurricanes, sustainable reuse of waste materials in roadways, and cutting-edge enhancement of construction materials. Among other agencies, the Department currently receives research funding from Air Force, DOD, DOE, FDOT, General Motors, NASA, NSF, Office of Naval Research, Rolls Royce, and USDA.

The Department is also focused on providing an outstanding learning experience to our students through small class sizes, personal attention, and real-world, industry-sponsored capstone design projects. As a result of the outstanding preparation provided to the students, Florida Tech is currently ranked 6th in Student Experience (The WSJ/College Pulse Student Experience rankings), and 17th in an Employability Survey (2023 Times Higher Ed Employability Survey). Annual Security & Fire Safety Report

The federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act) requires colleges and universities, both public and private, participating in federal student aid programs to disclose campus safety information, and imposes certain basic requirements for handling incidents of sexual violence and emergency situations.

Florida Tech’s 2023 Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes statistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by Florida Tech; and on public properly within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus.

The numbers provided include crime statistics that were reported to local law enforcement agencies, campus security and other Campus Security Authorities.

The report also includes institutional policy statements regarding campus safety and security measures; descriptions of prevention and awareness programs; related university procedures and important guidance; and other essential safety information.
