Job Summary

The Associate Director of Online & Digital Pedagogy will provide leadership and advocacy for high quality technology-rich teaching and learning experiences that facilitate improved student learning in all course modalities, including a focus on online and hybrid learning.

Reporting to the Director of the Teaching and Learning Center, the Associate Director is responsible for providing faculty development programming and consultations on the use of effectively teaching with technology. Provides wide-ranging support on topics such as teaching with generative artificial intelligence (GAI), evidence-based teaching practices in online learning, game-based or experiential learning, and digital projects and assessments. The Associate Director will collaborate with campus partners to develop, sustain, support, and assess educational development initiatives; stay up to date with research, innovations, and emerging frameworks in teaching with technology, and share that scholarship with faculty. The AD will represent the TLC on relevant university and college committees, as needed. The AD will also manage TLC events and programs as needed.

The ideal candidate has teaching experience at the university level, as well as an understanding of the literature on how people learn with a special focus on digital, hybrid, and online pedagogies. They will have knowledge and mastery in the use of various educational technologies, software applications, video conferencing systems, and learning management systems. They will communicate clearly, persuasively, and enthusiastically in both presentations and one-on-one consultations. Must enjoy developing others’ knowledge and skills, and avidly seek professional development to improve their own skills. Requires an interest in working with a wide range of faculty and staff with varying needs and interests; a commitment to supporting inclusive and accessible teaching practices; an openness to and interest in innovations in teaching and learning; and the capacity to build collaborative relationships with faculty and staff. Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communications skills, project management and organization skills, a high-energy level, positive attitude, and the ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Functions
  • Create and facilitate workshops and programs on teaching with technology and teaching in online/hybrid modalities for faculty from a wide range of disciplines with various levels of technology skills.
  • Provide consultations to faculty (in-person and online) on evidence-based teaching practices with a special focus on online and hybrid learning, as well as on wide-ranging educational technologies used in all teaching modalities.
  • Assess efficacy of programming offered for online/hybrid learning and learning using digital technologies.
  • Research and test emerging technologies and strategize with the team on how to leverage emerging technologies to improve teaching and learning at Drexel.
  • Spearhead new projects and initiatives that promote best teaching practices, appropriate use of digital pedagogies, and growth in the use of emerging technologies.
  • Collaborate with the TLC team to create and facilitate longer-format learning opportunities for faculty such as faculty learning communities or online learning institutes.
  • Work collaboratively with others to plan special events and departmental initiatives.
  • Represent the TLC by serving on University Committees regarding technology initiatives or online/hybrid learning, where appropriate.
  • Engage in research and professional development on emerging technologies and make recommendations to the director.
  • Participate in staff meetings and submit project reports as needed.
  • Proactively build relationships with faculty on campus to advance TLC’s mission and foster a culture that values continual professional development in teaching within a large R-1 institution.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or Equivalent
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working with educational technology, teaching at the university level or both. An equivalent combination of experience may be considered.
  • Experience teaching university/college level courses in an online classroom environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with the use of various educational technologies, software applications, video conferencing systems, and learning management systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a wide variety of diverse populations and backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive practices.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and consult on the use of a variety of educational technologies with faculty who may have no technical background.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Terminal degree. Doctoral degree in educational technology or education preferred. An equivalent combination of experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge on how to make course materials accessible.
  • Proficiency using video editing programs, eLearning applications, and/or presentation capture systems.
  • Experience with web design, graphic design, InDesign, and/or Excel.

Additional Information

This position is classified as exempt grade L. Compensation for this grade ranges from $62,630 to $93,950 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
