About the Opportunity

The Northeastern Law Library Internship is a great opportunity to learn about law or academic librarianship. Our interns will engage in different law library functions, from reference to circulation to cite-checking. We are looking to hire two interns for 20 hours per week each, at $18 per hour. Hours are scheduled between 8:00am and 5:00pm Monday-Friday, with a preference for half or whole days.

All interns will comply with Northeastern COVID-19 guidelines and requirements.

Positions are not benefits-eligible.

  • Providing reference and circulation staffing at the InfoDesk or online
  • Intern will “float” among multiple library roles, assisting with various tasks
  • Providing professional reference service to the library's varied users - including faculty, staff, students, alumni, and the researching public
  • Supporting librarians with faculty research needs
  • Preparing and updating print and electronic research guides and other library publications
  • Supporting librarians in locating, retrieving, and photocopying material needed for teaching, and doing trial runs of legal research exercises
  • Assisting with collection maintenance tasks as needed
  • Cite-checking legal articles for an in house law school publication (training provided)

Applicants should be detail-oriented, well organized, able to work independently, and comfortable as part of a team. Strong communication skills and flexibility are essential.

The internship is to start as soon as possible with an end date six months after hiring. The start date can be flexible. No telephone inquiries, please.

  • Current enrollment in an ALA-accredited graduate-level library program (including starting this Fall).
  • Previous library or law library reference experience is preferred, but not necessary; we are happy to train the right candidates.
