The Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Purdue University invites applications for a non-tenure track Faculty of Engineering Practice at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full. Purdue University seeks to attract candidates with interests, expertise, and experience in semiconductor processing/manufacturing or in the design, verification, and testing of integrated circuits. Successful candidates must have an earned Ph.D. degree by the start of employment in a related discipline, e.g. Electrical and Computer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Industrial Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Physics and professional experience which can be applied to the Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering’s research, education, and/or engagement/outreach programs.  The successful candidate will teach courses and participate in education, workforce development, engagement/outreach and research activities within Purdue’s Semiconductors initiatives.

Purdue’s Semiconductors initiative includes cutting-edge research, workforce development, and “lab-to-fab” collaboration with industry (https://engineering.purdue.edu/semiconductors/semiconductors-at-purdue). With over 50 esteemed faculty in the nation’s top 4 engineering college, we have launched the first comprehensive Semiconductor Degrees Program, announced plans for a SkyWater fab close to campus, welcomed MediaTek to open their first Midwest office, formed an R&D partnership with imec - Belgium, established Purdue as a key collaborator with India Semiconductor Mission, and signed the U.S.-Japan UPWARDS semiconductor agreement at the G7 summit. The Birck Nanotechnology Center in Discovery Park houses a 25,000 sq ft. micro/nanofabrication cleanroom and is slated for significant upgrades to accommodate advanced industry collaborations. A wide range of commercial EDA and TCAD tools, along with extensive compute resources, are maintained for use in teaching and research.  IC designs are taped-out on a wide range of processes from TSMC, Global Foundries, and SkyWater, including designs from research groups, workforce development programs, undergraduate teams and research/educational collaborations. A number of education and workforce development programs provide learning experiences for students in both semiconductor fabrication and integrated circuit design, including multi-semester team design projects [Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP), Systems on Chip Technology (SoCET), and ECE Project Track MS program], summer programs aimed at attracting students into semiconductor-related fields such as Summer Training, Awareness, and Readiness for Semiconductors (STARS), workforce development programs in secure and trusted electronics such as Scalable Asymmetric Lifecycle Engagement (SCALE), and collaborative partnerships with other academic units.

The Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering is the largest academic unit at Purdue University and one of the largest ECE programs in the nation with 120 faculty members, 2,000 undergraduate students (sophomores-seniors) and 1,300 graduate students. This position is part of significant new growth and initiatives in Computer Engineering within ECE, and in response to the growing demand for software-based courses in the ECE curriculum with an emphasis on experiential learning. Faculty in ECE engage in cutting-edge research related to all areas of ECE. ECE’s degree programs are highly ranked nationally, including undergraduate (8th (EE)/7th (CE)), graduate (8th (EE)/10th (CE)), and online (1st). Faculty in ECE collaborate closely with industry, and the talent at Purdue ECE has been a major factor in attracting industry to the local area including many tech-focused companies such as Saab Global Defense and Security Company, Rolls-Royce, and GE Aviation. SkyWater Technology recently announced plans to build a $1.8 billion semiconductor R&D and production facility in West Lafayette.
