The Data Science Program is actively seeking applicants for one or more full-time teaching faculty positions starting January 2024. Depending on background and your interest, appointments may be as a Assistant Teaching Professor or Instructor.
Applicants must have demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace and/or commitment to do so as an employee at WPI.
Appointments are for multiple years and are renewable. Appointments are expected to lead to long-term security of employment. These appointments are positions without tenure. However, WPI provides opportunities for secure contracts and has created tenure options for teaching-mission faculty employed at WPI (see https://www.wpi.edu/news/worcester-polytechnic-institute-creates-tenure-and-extended-contract-opportunities-teaching ). Colleagues hired under these lines may have a later opportunity for conversion to a teaching-mission tenure-track line, should such lines become available.
Candidates should have a PhD in Computer Science or a closely related field, and the potential for excellence in teaching and research. We are in particular interested in applicants versed in data science, data mining and knowledge discovery, statistical learning, machine learning, deep learning, and artificial intelligence,
The Data Science Program has more than 15 full-time core faculty, including 3 teaching-mission faculty. The Data Science program is interested in applicants with teaching and project advising expertise in all areas of Data Science at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Successful candidates will teach 5 courses a year and advise junior and senior-year and graduate projects. Instruction will primarily be done in-person with a possibility for online teaching. The position may also include some administrative work for our program.
