The Bloomberg Center for Government Excellence at Johns Hopkins University (the Center/GovEx) is looking for aCommunity Managerto join the Communications Team.

The Center provides: coaching and technical assistance to government leaders and their teams to build a data-driven public sector that fairly and justly uses data; tailored curriculum for government partners to upskill employees and improve data practices; research and analytics to bridge the gap between research and reality, understand complex issues, engage residents and implement policy interventions that lead to equitable outcomes and transforms the standard of living for underserved residents; and human resource support to help deepen the bench of data thinkers across city agencies and attract new talent who can think about problem solving.

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Community Platform Manager to oversee and nurture our City AI Connect online community, a platform designed to connect staff of local governments around the world working on generative AI. Reporting to the Communications Director, ideal candidate will be responsible for creating and maintaining a thriving online space where community members can engage, collaborate, and share ideas around the use of generative AI in cities. This role requires a deep understanding of community dynamics and the ability to leverage various platforms and tools to foster a vibrant and supportive community.

The Center is committed to working with communities that are focused on ending legacies of structural, entrenched racism and oppression. You must be willing to think about reimagined government, knowledge, and engagement models through the lens of dismantling these legacies.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities


Community Strategy (10%)

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive community engagement strategy aligned with the organization's goals and values.
  • Set clear objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success and growth of the community.


Content Creation (15%)

  • Create and curate content (e.g., articles, blog posts, videos, webinars) that resonate with the community's interests and needs.
  • Ensure content is informative, engaging, and relevant to foster discussions and interactions.


Community Engagement (25%)

  • Act as the primary point of contact for community members, responding to inquiries and facilitating conversations.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere within the community and mediate conflicts when necessary.
  • Encourage member participation and user-generated content.


Platform Management (15%)

  • Manage the community platform(s) and social media channels, ensuring they are user-friendly and up to date.
  • Monitor and analyze community activity, track metrics, and report on trends.


Moderation & Compliance (5%)

  • Develop and enforce community guidelines and policies to maintain a safe and respectful environment.
  • Moderate discussions, remove inappropriate content, and address violations promptly.


Community Growth (25%)

  • Work with the GovEx Communications team to develop and implement strategies to attract new members and increase engagement within the community.
  • Collaborate with marketing and outreach teams to promote the community to a wider audience.


Feedback & Improvement (5%)

  • Gather feedback from community members and use it to enhance the community experience.
  • Continuously seek ways to improve the community platform and processes.
  • Report progress and emerging themes to leadership.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in related field.
  • Five years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven experience in community management, ideally within a digital or online environment.
  • Proficiency with community management tools, social media platforms, and analytics.
  • Familiarity with the generative artificial intelligence, the civic tech industry, and the organization's products/services.
  • Fluency in Spanish.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
