Position Announcement
Utah Valley University is currently seeking a Senior Director! Working under the direction of the Associate Vice President of Inclusive Excellence, the Senior Director of Multicultural Student Services is the strategic and proactive leader of multiple identity-based student success programs and relating initiatives to develop independent programs into unique centers which provide highly specialized, identity-affirming, and culturally-informed student programs. These include: the African Diaspora Initiative, the Asian Initiative, the Latino Initiative, the Native American Initiative, the Pacific Islander Imitative, student leadership development programs, a scholarship program, community engagement program, and donor-relations.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Lead multiple units including 9 direct reports, 15 indirect reports, and multiple student and work study employees. Set strategic vision and goals to increase student retention, persistence, and graduation rates through multiple independent, identity-centered student programs.
  • Recruit, retain, and develop a team of leaders with expertise in unique identity services and intersectional awareness and skills. Lead out in campus and community-engaged discussions regarding DEI issues, education, and solution-focused civic dialogue about difference, historical underrepresentation, and systemic challenges for multicultural students
  • Serves as a Multicultural Student Services ambassador and campus leader on DEI topics, campus committees and work groups, an advocate among peers and with UVU administration. Works with community members, donors, and MSS advisory board for fundraising initiatives.
  • Completes program assessment, executive summaries, and adapts strategy and outcomes to increase unit success. Secures resources necessary to accomplish strategic outcomes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited institution with a master's degree in a directly related field, plus four years of experience related to the Summary of Duties of the position or Bachelor's degree in a directly related field, plus six years related to the Summary of Duties of the position OR any combination of higher education and/or experience totaling ten years.

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of supervision, leadership, and program assessment of identity-based student programs and events.
  • Record management, organizing resources, establishing priorities, ethical and strategic fiscal management of appropriated, non-appropriated, and donated funds.
  • Knowledge of methods and practices of effective leadership techniques.
  • Knowledge of ethical budget management, procurement, and strategic resource planning. Knowledge of student coaching, student development, and professional relationship building.
  • Communicating professionally, both verbally and in writing, excellent interpersonal communication.
  • Demonstrated and versatile writing and editing skills.
  • Managing meetings, group dynamics, and problem solving.
  • Skills in various software and technology used for position, including Office suite, data analytic tools, Banner, etc.
  • Skills in building positive and productive interpersonal relationships and bringing disparate groups together.
  • Small and large group presentation.
  • Excellent project management, organization, time-management, prioritization, and planning.
  • Skills in supervising and developing a large team of employees.
  • Skills in managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work with broad range of internal and external stakeholders and a variety of levels of influence.
  • Ability to articulate mission, impact, and student stories in small and large group settings.
  • Ability to collaborate with peers and colleagues to strengthen programs and improve outcomes.
  • Ability to conduct meaningful assessment and guide refinement of programs.
