Class Summary

The Nursing Simulation Center Coordinator will oversee:
1. The daily operations of the simulation Center that includes the simulation and skills labs for all nursing programs. The Nursing Simulation Center Coordinator will provide the necessary technical and administrative leadership and direction to achieve evidence-based simulated patient care and education.
2. The installation, implementation, maintenance and support of information and simulation technologies (software, hardware, training) in the nursing program NOT supported by the COM IT department in the nursing program.

Minimum Education/Training/Experience

Bachelors degree and two (2) or more years of related clinical lab simulation lab experience. Experience working in medical/nursing simulation lab, knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, medicine and the healthcare setting is preferred.

Preferred Education/Training/Experience

Masters degree in Nursing and four (4) or more years experience in clinical simulation lab accreditation preferred. Certification as simulation and or vendor training/certification to service one or more high fidelity manikin brands is a plus. Experience working in nursing simulation lab, knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, medicine and the healthcare setting is preferred.
Must be able to function independently; high degree of organizational and interpersonal skills; highly competent in simulation theory and clinical nursing skills.
Nursing degree and simulation lab certification a plus.

Minimum Knowledge & Skills

Knowledgeable in principles and practices of clinical simulation & training techniques.
Knowledgeable in student engagement techniques.
Able to establish and maintain effective work relationships with internal and external IT professionals, students, faculty, staff, and the public.
Interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with students, coworkers, supervisor, and the general public sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
Excellent communication skills to provide effective collaborative efforts with experts in a variety of professions that are internal and external to COM .
Strong analytical and communications skills (written and verbal)
Strong customer service orientation

Preferred Knowledge & Skills

Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator or technician ( CHSE ) Certification

Job Duties

Maintain current knowledge of relevant clinical issues and teaching methods suitable to the learning laboratory.
Schedule simulation lab including open labs.
Coordinate the setup of clinical skills practice labs for ADN and VN students.
Assist VN, ADN, and BSN faculty with coordinating lab instructions and validations as requested.
Act as a resource person for ADN and VN students using the nursing clinical and computer labs during open practice hours, and for skills remediation.
Collaborate with ADN and VN simulation faculty members in the development of new simulated laboratory experiences for students.
Assist simulation faculty with implementation of simulation scenarios.
Assist faculty with simulation instruction in the classroom.
Assist students in utilizing computer software available in assigned laboratories.
Maintain an inventory of all equipment, including software, located in the assigned laboratories.
Collaborate with faculty to identify supportive services, equipment, and software needed for assigned laboratories and submit requests to appropriate faculty as well as the Director of Nursing.
Coordinate the ordering and storage of all supplies and equipment used in the assigned laboratories.
Assist the budget manager to oversee lab expenditures according to the instructional budget.
Assist in grant funding requests by obtaining vendor quotes and capturing necessary data.
Develop and revise, in collaboration with the appropriate faculty and the Director, policies and procedures related to the safe usage of equipment and laboratory space.
Collaborate with Director in interviewing and hiring of lab employees.
Facilitate and oversee maintenance of simulators and laboratory equipment.
Coordinate the cleaning of equipment in assigned laboratories.
Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

May work indoors in classroom, skills lab, and office. Work with students, staff, and faculty during laboratory teaching experiences.

Physical: High physical demand. Must be able to stoop, bend, lift up to 50 pounds, and assist in maneuvering equipment prior to, during, and after teaching situations.
