Because gun violence disproportionately impacts communities of color, we ground our work in equity and seek insights from those most impacted on appropriate solutions. Using the best available science, our Center works towards expanding evidence-based advocacy and policy-making

efforts. This combination of expertise creates a unique opportunity to turn public health research into action that reduces deaths and injuries from gun violence.




The Center for Gun Violence Solutions at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health is seeking aSr. Research Program Coordinatorto provide research support and oversight for multiple gun violence prevention studies under the supervision of the Principal Investigator.

This is a full-time, hybrid (2 days a week in the office) post based in Baltimore.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage research and program efforts of specified grants at the Center for Gun Violence Solutions.
  • Leads the scientific implementation and daily operation of research studies and other projects.
  • Track and manage multiple projects and project-related issues simultaneously. Develop project plans, timelines, presentations, and checklists for various program activities.
  • Complete and maintain professional documentation for projects and deliverables, develop SOPs as needed, and assist in the auditing and monitoring of studies.
  • Oversee the coordination of all activities of a research studies and projects to assure validity of findings. Provides direct assistance with study/project coordination when needed to cover for absent staff.
  • Ensure adherence to research protocols and oversee record management for research studies/ projects.
  • Identify recruitment problems, identify solutions, and help to assure that remedies are quickly implemented to keep the recruitment goal on track for research project completion.
  • Develop new budgets, monitor study financial expenditures, and manage research participant remuneration. Work with Budget Analysts to create financial reports.
  • Assist with grant development and award preparation and submissions, as needed.
  • Assist with IRB applications, manuscript preparation and analyzing data, as needed.
  • Participates in study meetings and provides updates on protocol implementation status and makes recommendations on operational issues.
  • Assists other study team members with research related activities on other projects as needed.
  • Promotes a culture of service for study participants, research staff, and collaborators.
  • Coordinate IRB related documents and applications for various projects
  • Communicate with faculty and staff on project timelines and coordinate completion of deliverables
  • Work with grant development team to ensure reporting and deadlines are met by PI and supporting staff.
  • Organize study procedures and materials
  • Support data analysis and interpretation of findings
  • Support the production of scholarly articles and conference presentations
  • Ensure data integrity and compliance with security policies governed by HIPAA and the Johns Hopkins IRB.
  • Experience working on a diverse team
  • Experience working with different communication styles
  • An understanding of the concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias and their impact on underserved and underrepresented communities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning logically associated duties to the position.


Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail and demonstrate an ability to adapt to the needs of a diverse and high-paced research environment quickly and comfortably.
  • Open communication, sharing of expertise and ideas, and the ability to take direction and respond positively to feedback.
  • Good oral and written communication and reading comprehension skills, be comfortable using technology (e.g., computers, laptops, tablets, copier, printer) and with Office programs.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
  • Three years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree.

Starting Salary Range: Min $40,900 - Max $71,600 Annually ($65,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
