The report also notes that nurses must incorporate a health equity lens learned in academic education and points out that the decade ahead demands a more diverse nursing workforce prepared to address systemic inequities that fuel health inequalities.

The nationally ranked University of Washington School of Nursing offers: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN), Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP; covering a range of practice specialties), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree programs. We are expecting to hire one candidate at the Teaching Professor rank (Midwifery Track). Candidates will be expected to hold a leadership role in the teaching and mentoring of UWSON DNP-Midwifery students.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in midwifery education, contributing to a more inclusive and equitable healthcare landscape, and fostering a welcoming and supportive environment for all students. The successful candidate will be expected to:
· Work collaboratively across disciplines, cultures, and academic backgrounds; encouraging critical thinking about health disparities and the impact of social determinants on healthcare.
· Provide leadership on the content and design of the midwifery didactic and clinical coursework. Support diverse clinical placements across different organizations in both healthcare and community settings. Offer insight to the DNP curriculum committee, participate in DNP admission reviews, and contribute to enhancing a robust program. Mentor and advise DNP-Midwifery students, ensuring that their academic and clinical experiences are inclusive and culturally sensitive. Serve as an advocate
· Provide leadership and expertise in teaching about health inequities, anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion that reflects the increasingly diverse general and patient populations of the U.S.
· Actively lead DNP-Midwifery efforts in program development and quality improvement, and advance health equity through our curriculum, scholarship, service, and practice
· Contribute to the academic community's understanding of how to improve healthcare outcomes for underrepresented and marginalized communities. Encourage students to actively address health inequities, eliminate disparities, and serve diverse patient populations with cultural competence. Serve as an advocate for students, the department, and UW, with a multicultural lens.
· Demonstrate continued scholarship and research relevant to teaching nationally and internationally, which may include manuscripts, conference presentations, book chapters, etc that recognize the importance of training an academically sound and diverse healthcare workforce.
This is a full-time position (1.0 FTE), 9-month appointment, not tenure eligible. The appointment is eligible for a multi-year contract. Base salary will depend on qualifications, background, and experience. The base salary range for this position will be $10,000 - $15,000 per month based on 100% FTE. The anticipated start day is September 16, 2024.

Candidates must have a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree (or foreign equivalent), have active certification as a certified nurse midwife (CNM) and hold a current license or eligibility for licensure as a registered nurse (RN) and advanced practice nurse practitioner (ARNP) in the state of Washington. In addition, candidates should have a minimum five years of experience teaching graduate-level nursing clinical and didactic courses (focused on midwifery), practice education and leadership experience in healthcare or community settings, and a record of scholarship relevant to teaching nationally and internationally, which may include manuscripts, conference presentations, or book chapters, that recognize the importance of training an academically sound and diverse health care workforce. In addition, aspiring candidates should have substantial and recent (within 5 years) clinical experience as a midwifery provider.
Applicants must provide a formal letter of interest indicating teaching interests, noting how their training, preparation, and experience support the school’s and department’s mission, and showing expressed, demonstrated commitment to antiracism, diversity, equity, and inclusion. Applicants must also include their up-to-date curriculum vitae. Applicants should be prepared to provide names and contact information for 3 references, if requested. At least one reference (two preferred) should be able to speak to the applicant’s teaching effectiveness and commitment to serving a diverse student body which includes historically underrepresented groups in nursing.
