The School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at Washington State University (WSU) invites applications for multiple full-time career track teaching faculty positions in Computer Science. Positions will be based at the WSU main campus in Pullman, WA. Preference will be given to candidates with one or more of the following: prior teaching or teaching assistantship experience, curriculum development experience (classroom, online), leadership potential, industry experience/potential to foster industry partnerships, exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, and a commitment to diversifying the student body. The positions will be considered at different ranks, and for either a 1-year fixed term appointment (with renewal contingent upon performance) or a continuous appointment, depending on the following qualifications:
Required Qualifications for Scholarly Assistant Professor:
- Earned a Master’s in Computer Science or a related discipline by August 15, 2024.
Preferred Qualifications for Scholarly Assistant Professor:
- Earned a PhD in Computer Science or a related discipline by August 15, 2024.
Required Qualifications for Scholarly Associate Professor:
- Earned a Master’s in Computer Science or a related discipline by August 15, 2024 and had at least 5 years of relevant teaching or industry experience.
- Earned a PhD in Computer Science or a related discipline by August 15, 2024 and had at least 3 years of relevant teaching experience.
Required Qualifications for Scholarly Full Professor:
- Earned a PhD in Computer Science or a related discipline by August 15, 2024 and had at least 10 years of relevant teaching or relevant industry experience.
Qualifications for fixed term versus continuous appointment:
- For consideration toward a continuous appointment, the candidate should have had at least 3 years of teaching experience and/or a PhD. Otherwise, the appointment will be a 1-year fixed term appointment (with renewal contingent upon performance).
Recent graduates and graduate students expecting to graduate by August 2024 who have a passion for teaching core undergraduate level computer science courses are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates with no prior experience but who meet necessary educational qualifications will be considered for the Scholarly Assistant Professor rank.
Scholarly Assistant Professor: $95,000 - 105,000
Scholarly Associate Professor: $110,000 - 125,000
Scholarly Full Professor: $130,000 - 145,000
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. The job duties of successful candidates include curriculum development; advising students; teaching undergraduate courses in computer science; interfacing with industry; participating in continuous teaching assessment activities; effectively communicating and interacting with students; supporting student recruitment activities; and collaborating with others within the School, the University, or other organizations. In particular, candidates are expected to be able to teach software engineering and programming languages courses at a minimum, with further ability to cover databases, networking, or architecture courses being considered a plus.
The new faculty hired for this position will join 58 existing tenure-track and career track faculty members in the School of EECS, which has experienced rapid growth in enrollment over the past four years. Currently approximately 1300 undergraduate students were enrolled in its B.S., and B.A programs, and 200 graduate students are enrolled in its M.S., and Ph.D. programs in computer science, electrical engineering, and computer engineering. EECS expects continued increase in enrollments and anticipates multiple faculty hires over the next two years. The current faculty composition in the School of EECS includes a member of the National Academy of Engineering and ten fellows of national professional organizations as well as sixteen CAREER and Young Investigator award recipients. Our graduate students have recently won multiple prestigious awards including Microsoft Research fellowship, IBM Research fellowship, and NSF Computing Innovation fellowship.
