Position Function:

The position of a Software Developer will be under the specific direction by Dr. Vuk Marojevic, Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The main duties of the individual are to design, coordinate, and maintain a 5G open-source software project that will be used to conduct 5G security research, development, and testing on software radio platforms. The chosen candidate will actively participate in the design, development, and maintenance of an open-source software-defined 5G research platform.

Department Profile:

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Mississippi State University consists of 27 faculty members (including six endowed professors), 7 professional staff, and over 700 undergraduate and graduate students, with approximately 100 being at the Ph.D. level. The department consistently records research expenditures of more than $10M annually. The department houses the largest High Voltage Laboratory among North American Universities and is home to the NSF Advance Wireless Testbed - AERPAW. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Design, architect, and develop a software-defined 5G Advanced/O-RAN research platform in collaboration with a multi-university R&D team and project stakeholders.
2. Coordinate a large software radio software project.
3. Design, develop, troubleshoot, integrate, and test software for advanced wireless communications systems and protocols.
4. Document and maintain the open-source 5G software stack and establish a framework for distributed development that facilitates external contributions.
5. Provide research reports in appropriate technical forums, including technical conferences and peer-reviewed journals. Compile technical reports for users and stakeholders.
6. Meet with the scientific and broader communities to discuss 5G Advanced technology and research and development.
7. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
• One year of demonstrable software development experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• MS or beyond in a relevant discipline.
• Research or development experience.

• Management of large software projects.
• Experience with:
* 5G New Radio,
* Software radio software, such as srsRAN or OpenAirInterface,
* Software radio hardware, such as Ettus Research/NI USRPs,
* Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN),
* The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) specifications,
* Radio frequency (RF) front ends and RF engineering,
* Artificial intelligence and machine learning principles and implementations,
* Software development, maintenance, and testing,
* Wireless testbeds and testing.
