Position Details
Wesleyan University’s Office of Advancement ( ADV ) builds lifelong relationships with alumni, parents, and friends, and engages them in support of Wesleyan’s educational mission and financial goals.

The Advancement team fosters pride in the Wesleyan community and develops support for university initiatives through outreach activities, including development and fundraising, alumni and parent relations, and on- and off-campus events. Wesleyan is about to launch the public phase of a $600 million comprehensive fundraising campaign.

Reporting to the Director of Special Events, the Assistant Director collaborates with colleagues and volunteers to plan and execute initiatives, programs and events intended to engage alumni and parents in the life of the University, and to cultivate and inspire giving as well as measure the success of those efforts. This position will also work with operations to manage the event platform.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Working independently and in close conjunction with staff class liaisons to support individual reunion class initiatives including, maintaining class web pages, coordinating activities (including virtual and in-person), planning and implementing engagement programs and compiling Reunion & Commencement Weekend WESeminar ideas for implementation.
  • Managing assigned reunion classes in collaboration with Wesleyan Fund staff to create a comprehensive reunion engagement plan that leverages Reunion & Commencement Weekend as a capstone to a full cycle of interactions and activities designed to build strong ties among classmates.
  • Training Alumni and Parent Relations interns to support the execution of select Reunion class programs.
  • Oversee event logistics, relationships with venues/vendors/caterers or other service providers, and event budgets.
  • Utilizing event management platforms, including Linvio event registration and EMS room reservation system.
  • Maintaining a portfolio of assignments for various on-campus events including Homecoming/Family Weekend and Reunion & Commencement Weekend.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This position is a hybrid position with on-campus and remote work schedules.

Remote work is only considered for residents of MA, VT, NH, ME, CT, RI, or NY. (Relocation assistance to CT is available for those who qualify).

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree, experience in marketing, social media, communications, public relations or a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education training and experience. Experience in these areas during college will be considered.

Demonstrated ability to be flexible and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously while working with varied personalities and work styles.

Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills and organizational skills, with great attention to detail.

Self-motivated and able to balance competing deadlines and manage multiple and often shifting priorities.

Ability to manage complex relationships, and proven collaboration and teamwork skills.

Intermediate expertise with MS Word and Excel, Outlook and database programs.

Demonstrated commitment to work within a diverse environment and interact openly with individuals of different backgrounds.

This position requires some evening and weekend work, as well as overnight travel.
