Summary of Job Duties:
Provide subject-specific tutoring
assistance while promoting effective study strategies. Tutors will
work closely with staff and participate as a team member to improve
student success and retention. Tutors are hired for various courses
and disciplines including Math (all areas), Natural Sciences (all
areas), and Probability and Statistics. The position reports to the
Assistant Director of the Academic Success Center.
- An academic level of second-semester freshman or higher is
- Must have a grade of 3.0 or above (on a 4.0 scale) in the
courses that will be tutored.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Professional college teaching and/or tutoring experience.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Knowledge of the content area being tutored
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills
- Verbal, visual and/or written presentation skills
- Ability to incorporate technology into tutorial sessions

- Provide in-person and/or virtual tutoring support in a specific
subject based on their credentials and availability in courses that
may include the following: Math (all areas), Natural Sciences (all

- Promote effective study habits, assist with comprehension of
coursework, enhance learning concepts and strategies, and work with
faculty members and ASC to improve student success and
- Attend training/orientation sessions and conduct tutoring
sessions as assigned in a timely and professional manner.
- Maintain attendance data and complete appointment summaries for
each tutoring session to ensure positive academic progress is

the students by using verbal, visual, and written methods.

- Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by

Work performed primarily in an
office setting. Employee regularly talks and hears. Employee
occasionally lifts items up to 50 pounds. Routine work schedule
Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. Tutors will have the

own hours. Actual work schedule will depend on the demand for the
courses, time availability, and the needs of the students.
