Other Conditions: Appointment to August 1, 2024.  General or Special funds, contingent upon position clearance and college needs. Selectee is required to complete the COE New Faculty orientation in the first year, required UHM training (e.g., Title IX), and must undergo and pass a criminal background check.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in the Curriculum Studies Department’s diverse programs including face-to-face, online, and hybrid courses;
  • Contribute to the uniqueness of the University of Hawaiʻi as a Hawaiian place of learning that serves neighbors in the Pacific;
  • Provide expertise and leadership in Pasifika education;
  • Provide expertise in interdisciplinary education, particularly in the intersection of Pasifika leadership, education, and sustainability;
  • Advise and mentor students in master’s and doctoral programs;
  • Develop and maintain an active program of research and publication;
  • Actively participate in accreditation and program review activities and ongoing improvement of programs;
  • Provide service to the Department, College, University, public and private schools and broader communities;
  • Perform other duties as required.


Minimum Qualifications

  1. Earned doctorate degree in Education or in a closely related field, from an accredited institution;
  2. At least three years of experience teaching in post-secondary level or other educational institutions;
  3. Strong background in Pasifika education and leadership;
  4. Evidence of emerging research agenda related to Pasifika education and leadership;
  5. Experience working effectively with Pasifika community-based organizations in education;
  6. Classroom experience teaching Pasifika students as K-12 educator;
  7. Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience that provides the required education, knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated.


Desirable Qualifications

  1. Strong foundation in place-based and culturally responsive instructional methods in the Pacific;
  2. Fluency in a Pasifika language such as Chuukese, Hawaiian, Kosraen, Marshallese, Palauan, Pohnpeian, Yapese, or Samoan; Knowledge of and instructional experience in Pasifika university/school teacher education partnerships; Experience teaching integrated courses;
  3. Experience in developing post-secondary Pasifika programs and/or courses;
  4. Successful experience(s) teaching post-secondary Pasifika education courses, as evidenced in student course evaluations or other documentation;
  5. Some experience or knowledge of the accreditation process in education;
  6. Experience working with diverse communities and demonstrated commitment to equity and social justice;
  7. Experience with teaching or practicing Indigenous research methodologies.
