Job Description: The Department of English Language and Literature at Weber State University invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of English specializing in screenwriting and fiction. We seek a candidate who demonstrates a strong commitment to undergraduate education and the needs of a diverse student body in an open-enrollment public university.

The expected start date for this position is July 1, 2024.

Job Duties:
Job Duties: Expectations for this position include teaching undergraduate courses from first-year composition to upper division and graduate courses; engaging in research; providing service to the department, college, and university; and demonstrating a commitment to student success. Teaching assignments will focus primarily on creative writing. The teaching load is typically four (4) courses per semester. The position is salaried and includes a generous benefits package.

  • Ph.D. or MFA in creative writing, screenwriting, fiction writing, or related field.
  • Evidence of effective teaching of creative writing.

The Weber State University English department houses undergraduate programs in literature, creative writing, professional and technical writing, linguistics, and English education, as well as a Master of Arts program. Founded in 1889, Weber State University is located 35 miles north of downtown Salt Lake City in Ogden, Utah, which is considered the northern edge of the Salt Lake City metro area.
