Assistant Professor - Social Foundations of Education: Race, Power, and Social Justice in Education
Major Responsibilities: Faculty in the Department of Educational Theory, Policy and Administration contribute to master’s and doctoral programs focusing on issues of equity, structural inequality, and social justice in education, including graduate programs in Education, Culture and Society and the Ph.D. concentration in Theory, Organization and Policy. Faculty teach a broad range of courses that assist students across the GSE in developing theoretical frameworks, methodologies and perspectives that are critical to grappling with issues of social justice and equity in education settings and mentor students in those areas. The candidate filling this position will contribute to the GSE’s program in Education, Culture and Society, and strengthen the Graduate School of Education’s theoretical rigor, intersectional analyses, and commitment to dismantling racism and other axes of systemic oppressions.
Additionally, the scholar filling this position will conduct a research and publication agenda that advances Rutgers Graduate School of Education’s pursuit of advancing excellence and equity in education; demonstrate commitment to community engaged scholarship and scholarly productivity by publishing in peer-reviewed journals and with highly respected presses; secure competitive external research support, and present at national and international scholarly conferences; contribute to the success of programs across the GSE; participate in relevant program development and innovation; develop and teach graduate courses in critical studies of education within their areas of expertise; assume an active role in the Education, Culture and Society program and in the School and provide graduate student advisement, mentoring, teaching and service; participate actively in national professional organizations; and contribute to the strategic goals of the Graduate School of Education.
Minimum Qualifications: Candidates for this position are required to hold an earned doctoral degree from an accredited major research university in a social science discipline (including education). We seek candidates with demonstrated strong theoretical and methodological training, and a demonstrated commitment to and expertise in the preparation of anti-racist educators. Candidates with demonstrated commitment to addressing diversity, equity, and social justice issues in PreK-12 education and to community engaged scholarship, scholarly promise and accomplishment should apply. The ideal candidate will have prior successful teaching experience at the university level and demonstrated success or potential for success in securing competitive external research funding.
