Systems Administrator

Department: Information Operations

Position Summary:
Monmouth University is seeking applications for a Systems Administrator in the Information Operations department.

The candidate would be expected to: ensure compliance with established standards, policies and configuration guidelines. Implement and monitor user access control methods; install, configure and maintain technical systems to support business requirements; maintain up-to-date documentation on configurations, operational procedures and hardware and software inventories; maintain virtual server environment with security patches and regular upgrades; troubleshoot, diagnose and correct systems to ensure functional objectives of the business are met ; perform regular patches, ensuring proper access for accounts, and assist with end-user issues; maintain the backup, disaster recovery system with patches/upgrades/optimizations; ensure ALL critical IT data is protected with on-site and off-site non-mutable copies; ensure off-site data moves off-site on schedule; install and monitor user security, including the use of Microsoft group policies with Advanced Group Policy Management.

This is an in-person, on campus, non-remote position.

Other Requirements:
  • Three (3) years of Linux or Windows System Administration experience
  • Ability and working knowledge to administer, manage, and install Linux or Windows Servers
  • Must be able to utilize a variety of computer software programs in order to successfully complete assigned tasks for servers and related systems.
  • Must treat confidential and sensitive information appropriately and comply with legal requirements and policies.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Any Ubuntu, CentOS, Linux+, experience preferred.
  • Proficient in scripting whether it be PowerShell, Bash, Python, or VisualBasic.
    SQL DB administration a plus.
  • Administer multiple physical and virtual servers.
  • Experienced in backup and disaster recovery policies.
  • Familiar with on-premise and cloud solutions, including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Sharepoint/Teams, Exchange and Entra/Azure AD, SSO, SAML2, MFA services.
  • Working knowledge of Mail/SMTP/IP protocols.
  • Insight into network filesystems, web services, and storage solutions - iSCSI, SMB, TrueNAS, EqualLogic. Familiarity with Dell, SuperMicro, HP hardware and servers .
