Essential Functions

The School of the Arts at the University of Nebraska at Omaha invites applications for an Instructor – Coordinator of Art Education. The primary role of the instructor position is to: 1) supervise and mentor student practicum and clinic practices in the classrooms; 2) coordinate student practicum and clinic student placements; 3) develop partnerships with local school districts for student clinical and advanced practice; and 4) identify and supervise part-time Art Ed Faculty. This position will also serve as the primary contact for P-12 cooperating teachers and clinical students concerning communication, problem solving, and when needed, conducting additional observations/site visits, or completing additional evaluations. Ongoing monitoring of the completion of all assessments by cooperating teachers and clinical students is required throughout the semester. Additional opportunities for teaching courses will be available as determined by the program needs. The person in this position will also participate fully in the unit (Art & Art History) and may receive service assignments. Candidates must hold a current (Nebraska or other states’) art teacher certification, have at least a master’s degree, and have extensive (at least 3-5 years) P-12 art classroom experience. Administrative experience is highly desired. Strong technology skills with Microsoft products or the Google suite of programs are necessary and candidate must be able to travel to educational settings to conduct observations. Start date for this position is August 19, 2024.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates who hold certification (under a standard certificate) in art education, have solid experience with Nebraska fine art and media standards, and are familiar with the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation ( AAQEP ).
