The Theatre program at the University of Nebraska at Omaha is actively seeking a dynamic candidate for the role of a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Musical Theatre, with the position scheduled to commence on August 19, 2024. While the primary teaching focus will be musical theatre performance, we are open to exploring other courses that align with the candidate’s expertise. We are particularly interested in an individual who can take on a leadership role within our BA musical theatre program and our rapidly expanding Summer Musical Theatre Academy for high school students.

We are in search of candidates who embody qualities such as dynamism and a student-centered approach to teaching. It is essential that candidates have a deep understanding of the musical theatre repertoire and the industry at large. The ideal candidate should also possess experience in administration, program development, course creation, recruitment, and/or community outreach. Prior experience as a musical director and accompanist is highly desired.

At the heart of our mission is the dedication to fostering an enthusiastic and collaborative atmosphere while upholding the liberal arts ethos and prioritizing undergraduate education. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the growth and community outreach efforts of our program. We seek an educator who is passionate about musical theatre and education and is eager to contribute to our vibrant unit.

The Theatre Unit is one of three academic units located within the School of the Arts in the College of Communication, Fine Arts and Media. The other units include Art and Art History and Writer’s Workshop. The University of Nebraska at Omaha is a vibrant metropolitan university in the state’s largest city and has an enrollment of approximately 15,000 students. The residential campus has several new beautifully appointed residence halls. UNO is classified as a doctoral-research university in the latest Carnegie Classification on Institutions of Higher Education Classification from the Carnegie Foundation. The campus is located in the heart of Omaha, a cosmopolitan city of more than 600,000 (1.2 million including the larger Omaha metro area), which is known for its excellent public-school system, a strong economic base and a vigorous Omaha performing arts community.
