Description

 

Arizona Western College (AWC) is a two-year community college located in Yuma AZ with 12,000 students located over multiple campuses. The student population is predominately first-generation college students comprised of traditionally underrepresented populations. AWC plays an important role in the community both in higher education and civic engagement.

 

The annual AWC budget is $135M a year. 

 

The Director of Financial Services and Controller plans, directs, administers and organizes the financial services operations for the AWC College District. This includes preparation of various financial reports for internal and external use. Additionally, district budget development and monitoring, and financial analyses initiation is a

critical part of this role. This position also implements approved policies, accounting practices and procedures.

 

Position Specification:

 

The Director of Finance & Controller is the central point of financial communication and budget management, supporting internal customers within the departments and functions of AWC. The Director of Finance will work directly with AWC Vice Presidents, CFO, institution leadership, faculty, supervisors and other key stakeholders.

 

Responsibilities include:

 

Budget development and management Ownership of the institution’s state audits Internal customer and stakeholder customer service Transformation project management (automatic budget transfers, for example) Annual audit report preparation Consolidation of financial statements to ensure GAAP and GASB compliance Vendor management

 

The Director of Finance & Controller is the data steward for fiscal access. This position will serve as the trusted

confident that works in tandem with the CFO; interacting daily in collaboration, strategy, problem solving, day-to-day discussions and providing executive briefings on transformation initiatives.

 

 

 

 

Direct Reports:

Reporting directly to the CFO, Ross Poppenberger; The Director of Finance will lead eight direct reports and work in a team environment empowering and coaching individuals who contribute to the professional growth and success of the college.

 

 

Qualifications:

 

Certified CPA Current knowledge of GAAP and GASB policies and practices Minimum of five current years as a Controller or Assistant Controller Current Technology Stack: Microsoft Office Familiarity or ability to learn: Ellucian Colleague ERP, Syntellis Axiom,
