Position Purpose

Assists Program Manager in planning and teaching a wide array of curricular class sessions and community workshops pertaining to the design and fabrication of printed and/or bound objects. Helps organize, maintain, and monitor the use of the Book Arts Workshop studio facilities and operation of equipment and tools. Oversees studio operations in the absence of the Program Manager. Carries out administrative duties such as managing and training student employees, event planning/advertising, processing financial transactions, curating social media presence, and executing other physical/digital communications work.

This is a part-time (20 hours per week) position.

Bachelors or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

● 1 yr experience teaching (or assistant teaching) post-secondary age students
● Demonstrated ability to work with hands (drawing, origami, sewing, woodworking etc.)
● Demonstrated ability to teach others
● Excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility in fluid situations and ability to manage projects in short timeframes
● Flexibility and the ability to work independently without close supervision
● Ability to prioritize competing responsibilities
● Excellent oral and written communication skills
● Ability to work effectively in a public services environment
● Familiarity with computer software applications including spreadsheet, word processing, graphic design, email, social media, and web-based programs
● Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
● Ability to lift and/or move 30 lbs.
● Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

● MFA in Printmaking or Book Arts; or the equivalent in education and experience
● 2 yrs experience teaching (or assistant teaching) post-secondary age students
● Demonstrated ability in book/graphic design, letterpress printing, bookbinding
● Practitioner of own creative work in printing, bookbinding, and the book arts

Key Accountabilities

Description

Provides individual or group instruction and orientations with beginning and advanced students. Teaches and demonstrates a range of letterpress and bookbinding techniques. Prepares materials for classes and workshops. Assists with curricular instruction as needed.

Assists in determining facility, equipment, and material requirements. Organizes and maintains studio work areas, tools, and equipment. Performs preventative maintenance, cleaning, and basic repairs.

Description

Participates in planning programs to increase the effectiveness of the studio as a Dartmouth-wide resource. Assists with advertising, programming, and events. Assists with maintaining social media presence for Book Arts Workshop in collaboration with Library Communications Manager.

Description

In coordination with the Program Manager, trains, guides, and identifies work assignments for student assistants. Manages student payroll paperwork. Processes invoices and expenses with the finance office. Orders basic office and operating supplies. Assists with planning and organizing for visiting artist events. Maintains records and statistics of participant use.
