The basics of this position:

The individual in this position will work closely with and under the direct supervision and guidance of the District-wide Coordinator of Veteran Affairs. Expectations of this position will be to assist in the daily operations of Veterans Affairs. This position will act as the liaison between the students, campus, and the Coordinator to quickly address and resolve student complaints and campus escalations as it relates to VA as well as take an active part in process improvements between Veterans Affairs and Financial Aid processes. The individual in this position must have a good understanding of military culture and be able to clearly address and communicate with students, staff, and community constituents effectively. This position also includes the necessity of flexible work hours, weekends, and local travel.

What you'll do:
  • Serve as an integral member of and SEM for the District-wide Financial Aid Team.
  • Document enrollment and benefit information into institution’s data reporting system (BANNER).
  • Reconcile enrollment key data reports with Veterans Administration reporting system (VAOnce).
  • Track Veteran enrollment according to Chapter benefit and Veteran Status upon request.
  • Work with STLCC community partners to promote STLCC and foster beneficial partnerships geared toward military veterans and their families.
  • Assist as needed with facilitation of recruitment, admission, registration, and retention of student Veterans at Veteran and military centric venues.
  • Assist with regular visits the SCO’s on the campus as well as represent the Coordinator and STLCC VA when needed.
  • Assist with facilitation, in conjunction with the District Coordinator and campus SCO’s, periodic Veterans Administration Compliance Surveys.
  • Assist with facilitation of student workshops and Veterans Benefit informational sessions.
  • Assist with facilitation and tracking of military campus events as well as campus veteran groups.
  • Assist, when necessary, with receipt and processing of enrollment certifications.
  • Represent STLCC VA when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education, experience, and other requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent with minimum of 2 years of experience working with Veterans Administration Benefits or in an office of military culture.
  • Expert knowledge of institution’s and Veterans Administration reporting systems (BANNER and VAOnce) and associated forms.
    Willing to master policies and processes of STLCC VA.
