Position Summary:

The primary responsibility of this position is to provide administrative support and program coordination for the Premedical Graduate Sciences Certificate Program (CERT) and its director. The Pre-medical Graduate Health Sciences Certificate (CERT) program of Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine is a one-year in-person, graduate-level program for individuals seeking to enhance their qualifications for admission into professional school, including medical and dental school. The Administrative Assistant will be responsible for coordinating student workshops, orientations, and recruitment events; designing and implementing methods for tracking student progress following graduation; assisting with long-term strategic planning for premedical and predental CERT. In addition, this position will act as the administrative assistant to the Senior Associate Dean of Research and Research Training and support the administrative efforts of the Office of Research in general during peak periods.

Minimum Hiring Standards:
  • Must have the ability to work independently, relying on good judgment and professional skills to manage correspondence and meet deadlines
  • Familiarity with information systems, use of complex spreadsheets, word processing, and social media
  • Must have a working knowledge base of biomedical terminology
  • Ability to work in a diverse environment required
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent multitasking skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Writing ability that demonstrates attention to audience, tone, nuance and detail
  • Ability to work effectively while juggling several assignments simultaneously.
  • Must have a demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion in past experiences or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
Preferred Hiring Standards:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Advanced computer skills
  • Familiarity with graduate education
  • Familiarity with medical education.
